Steel, HD or Hevi-shot in mod. barrel
« on: February 25, 2009, 07:42:34 AM »
Any of you fellows know what damage I might do to my nef 20gauge modified using any of these shotgun shells?  I've heard they all shoot tighter than lead but I don't want to ruin my barrel.

How old is the barrel?

I bought it about 2 years ago for my daughter. it's a youth model. it kicked too hard for her so I thought this just might be the handiest gun around. it shoots lead shot to poa at thirty yards and slugs to poa at 45 yards. if I can add non-toxic shot I'll be ready for any situation.
btw, I added a slip-on recoil pad and made it the perfect lop.

This question has been asked before and I want to say that some people have called H&R and asked and the answer was that it's ok to shoot steel in any of their modern shotgun barrels. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a 20 gauge with screw in mod choke that I used for turkey hunting. I get good patterns with Remington Wingmaster HD 3" #4 shot.
I wouldn't hesitate to use it for waterfowl either.
