Model 7 or rem 700 whats the difference
« on: February 25, 2009, 12:27:13 PM »
Well the gun bug bit me again. Ive got a hankering for a 7-08. It will be a remington bolt. Now whats the difference between the model 7 & a short action 700. It ll be a couple months before I can buy. Im broke right now, unless I find one that I cant refuse & put it on lay away. Just figured Id start looking into them now.
I dont care what gun Im using as long as Im hunting

From what i understand: nothing as far as the action.
There are some slight differences in barrel contour and weight.  But the action is the same.
I remember the old M7's that had the dog leg bolt (like the 600 Mohawk) and were built as a cheap plain jane brush hunting rifle.

I think the Model Seven is clearly cut shorter by at least 1/2" than the short action 700. It's like a scaled down short action 700.

Actually it's more like a quarter of an inch shorter than the M700 SA. Other than that and different stocks nothing different really.

Think of the Seven as a scaled down 700.  They operate the same way, are built using the same methods, and one is just as dependable/durable as the other.  However, there are differences...the receivers, barrels, stocks, triggers, safeties, scope bases, etc.  All of these are different...not better or worse...just different.

The biggest stand out difference would be OAL and barrel length but thats comparing apples and oranges because most 700's including all I've had in the past were all long action. Yes there are SA short barreled 700's.

The last XP-100R Rem made they use the same action as the model 7 they change the bolt release for the pistol also BDL floor plate has the front screw inside of the floor plate if you look at the model 700 short action it's forward of the hinge.  The difference in screw spacing for the model 7 is appr 3/4" short than the 700 action and bolt body is appr 1/2" short in length  they did keep the same magazine lenght as the 700 short action.  I think the model 7 is a take off of the Rem 600 action.
