Encourage the girls..
« on: February 25, 2009, 02:12:27 PM »
As a hunter safety instructor, I am acutely aware how important it is to get the youth started out on a proper footing with the shooting sports. I have started dialog with the local Boy scout troop, which uses our American Legion post for a meeting place, and is sponsored by us. I believe I will be teaching a hunter safety class at my post, aimed at Boy scouts, but open to all...girls also welcomed..and encouraged.
I already have my youngest grandchild started. I bought her a little "matched pair" Rossi .22/.410 when she was 5, now that she has reached 10, I had to "girlize" her rifle. No problem, following her request, I painted it lilac...and she is handy with it !took her to my woods today for some plinking..as seen below.
Note: something happened that the lilac came out closer to blue in the pics..it really is lilac..

ironglow, enjoy the granddaughter while you can. When my granddaughter turned 15, she got other interests. Boy's and girl friends take over and a lot going on in school. They won't have the time. We sure had some great times while it lasted. Carl L.

Great pictures. My daughter says when I buy her a 22LR I have to paint it pink for her.  :o Dale

  Dale,
You can buy the "Cricket" with a pink synthetic stock. I had my 10yr old daughter at the range shooting hers for the first time last night. She loves it.

Good stuff there ironglow. My youngest daughter is extremely interested in hunting and shooting. You're a heck of a good Grandpa for working with that little sweety in the pictures. Looks like she has a great time her Grandpa and that she takes her firearms seriously. I think she has an excellent firearms instructor who loves her dearly.

I think I will probably get her a Marlin bolt when I do. The Cricket is just to small. My daughter will be 13 in a few days and she is only 6'' shorter than me now. :o Dale

Then there is the ever popular 10/22..just in case she gets "real serious" later, and wants to"modify"...

Sorry, forgot the last photo..here it is...   I am gratified that the gun manufacturers are considering the little ladies now days
An extended family member once calculated that births in our family run 88% boys, so this little dolly is very dear to her Gramp's heart. My other (grandsons, her brothers) are very gun oriented as part of their sporting life.
Her eldest brother is a Marine Sgt (Spec Ops) and her next to oldest brother works, attends college and is involved in mixed martial arts,
(yes, fighting in the cage)..and the younger grandson is working, studying and still "finding his niche". This little gal is about 96% of the time a perfect lady ..but she is home schooled,  into horses(4H) & martial arts..and can if need be, acquit herself quite well..
Of course, SHE thinks she can do anything and whip almost anybody.. ;) ;D ;D

Only problem I see with the pinky girlie guns is, If you want to pass it down to a boy later, he might ask for a lavender skirt to match ;D
