Is Cabelas really for the Muzzleloader Hunter?
« on: February 25, 2009, 03:25:18 PM »
I was checking some prices and could not believe how over priced they are in my opinion. You tell me what you think.

Lets start with Triple Se7en.
Cabelas $26.99 Natchez $19.99 Midsouth $20.43

BlackHorn209
Cabelas $37.99 Natchez $26.99 Midsouth $30.98

Primers (CCI)
Cabelas $ 37.99 Natchez $29.99 Midsouth $30.18

Sabots (Harvester 50cal)
Cabelas $7.99 Natchez $ Midsouth $4.75

Bullets (250grn SST)
Cabelas $14.99 per 20 Natchez $11.06 Midsouth $11.18

I really think i went far enough. What a joke. I am the worst at linking to Cabelas because of convenience. What do you guys think?

For me being ten minutes away from cabelas, hamburg pa.  No they aren't because the shipping charges from the mail order for powder and primers are close if not higher than the cost at cabelas.  Maybe If I wanted several pounds at once or a group got together it would pay to order.
Course I live 20 minutes from a dedicated BP shop "Dixon's ML" in kempton Pa and shoot goex from them 95% of the time and by not buying in bulk i have an excuse to travel down atleast once a month.

I noticed the same... I used to be Cabela's all the way, even have their credit card for the bonus points.

Now my order of preference is Mid-South, followed by Natchez (their shipping is too high) and finally Cabelas.

If you have a Sportsmans Warehouse close you might check their prices. I have not checked a lot but they sell BH209 for just about $30.00. Definately lower than Cabelas or Bass Pro Shops. My choice for those shops is Sportsmans first, then Cabelas and last Bass Pro.

Midway and sportsmanguide should not be overlooked. I flop between Natchez and Midway for reloading, but use Cabelsa for holiday shopping mostly because of brand recognition on their clothing.

I'm a couple hours from the W VA Cabelas. We go down as much to look around as anything. I do know they aren't the place to buy loading componants. There are just too many less expensive places to get the stuff. I do like being able to go in and try on the different outerware though.

I have also looked at these two stores and find their prices to be higher than others but you also have to look at their overhead. I have found in black powder stuff that Academy sports has a fare amount in stock and prices are not too bad. They have good gun prices and when compairing with the other mention stores there can be as much as 150.00 on the same gun. I picked up a Henry golden boy for 314.00 at academy and the local Bass Pro was priced at 429.00 same gun. I think that we just have to shop around of the best price.

Cabelas is not the place to save money on any outdoor supply, period. But on the other hand if you are interested in what something feels like or fits then it is the place to go. You pay for the wide selection, and liberal return policy. They can't keep all that stuff around for free.

I live way to close to one, and spend my share of money there. I also make a point of patronizing any local store that has what I'm looking for first.

They are  available cheaper at MidSouthShootersSupply.com. They regularly sell the double pack (30ct) of Shockwaves for $15.60. I'm told that the ShockWave and the SST are the same bullet.

I got the Shockwave to shoot 2" groups @ 200 yards with a max charge of BH209. Not bad for an off the shelf T/C ProHunter 209x50.

HAHA I am closer.  I live near shartlesville.  One exit past cabelas if coming from whitehall.  My ML collection is way down with the wife losing her job in jan, but still have a couple.  I just brought moma and baby home today and will be running the house for a couple weeks as my wife had to have an emergency c-section and is barely moving, but am always willing to make smoke with fellow hunters.
