Thompson Center Thunderhawk .54

I just purchased a TC Thunderhawk in .54.  Does anyone have any experience with this gun?  I know they make a 209 conversion kit for it but has anyone purchased and installed one and if so did it make a difference in the accuracy or reliability of the gun?  From what I have been able to gather by surfing the web it is an accurate rifle, but have not had an opinion from any other owners of the same firearm.  Feedback is greatly appreciated.

I had a stainless .50. I never scoped it and shot it only with Hornady Great Plains bullets and Buffalo Bullets. It was as accurate as I could see the sights. Don't recall ever having it misfire on me using regular #11 caps and pyrodex.

My first MLr was a Thunderhawk SS in .50 cal. It was very accurate and had I known than what I know now I would not have traded it. Would have kept it and bought the T/C System 1 outright. The Thunderhawk did not have a removable breech plug, but was still easy enough to clean.

Sounds like yours was identical to mine Jerry. I really should have kept mine too as I got so little for it on a trade it really wasn't worth letting it go.

Purchased this on a Gun Broker auction from a guy in Washington State.  Probably will be another week and a half before I see it  but I can't wait to get it dialed in for the early fall muzzle loader season.  I currently have a .54 that came from Century arms, the gun was made in Italy.  I have never been able to get it to group as well as I think it should which is why when the TC came up I bid on it.   My other  in-line is a NEF Sidekick which is working well, especially since I purchased the 25 acp adapter. 

I have used 777, and American Pioneer powder.  I like the easy cleaning of the Pioneer but it doesn't seem to give the velosity that the 777 does.  Any of you have a favorite powder    and if so why do you stick with it?
