Some heavy guns at Washington Navy Yard
« on: February 26, 2009, 11:36:11 AM »
These guns are described in the book THE IRON GUNS OF WILLARD PARK  by John Reilly.  I haven't looked for a website with those guns on it but there may be one, if you find it let us know.  See what you can tell about each one.  Some have labels and some have engraving describing where they came from.  If you can't figure out what's what, ask and I'm sure someone will respond, if no one knows after a while I have the book mentioned.  Have to run now that's why I'm not able to put in more detail at this time.

Briefly, here's a list of the guns shown, starting at the end of the row closest to the museum and ending at end closest to the river:

Early (ca. 1800) 12 pdr. iron gun, banded by Rebs

Brit 32 pdr. naval gun, unbanded, with Blakely pattern rifling

USN 32 pdr, naval M1846, banded by Rebs

Army 32 pdr. seacoast M1829, banded and rifled by Rebs

Blakely 7.5 in. rifle, banded
