Yesterday, three gun bills passed in the Tennessee house and are headed for the Senate.

HURRAY!

We've still got a ways to go, but we're 1/3rd there!

There are a couple of other handgun bills that should be voted on by the house in the next couple of weeks.

Let's keep the pressure up and hope for the best.

HB0046:
Handgun Permits - As introduced, prohibits department of safety or any department approved handgun safety course employee from requiring applicant for handgun carry permit to furnish any identifying information concerning any handgun the applicant owns or possesses. - Amends TCA Title 39, Chapter 17, Part 13.

HB0390:
Handgun Permits - As introduced, permits handgun carry permit holders to possess or carry a loaded rifle, loaded shotgun, or loaded magazine or clip therefore while in a motor vehicle. - Amends TCA Title 39, Chapter 17.

I can't find the other one right now....but I'll try to post it later.

Good work so far guy and gals!  Thanks!

The Tennessee senate passed a bill to allow carry holders to carry where alcohol is served.

http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2009904170358

This one is headed to the governors office for a signature.

The house passed the bill 70 yeas to 26 neys.

The senate voted 26 for, 6 against.

Phils a lame duck, I'm wondering if he'll sign it.

HB0716 and it's senate companion sb0976 (handgun carry permit holders allowed to carry in state parks) passed the senate committee on 5/6/09, another step closer to the governors office.

HB0961/SB1519 a bill which As introduced, authorizes a person with handgun carry permit to possess a firearm in a refuge, public hunting area, wildlife management area, or on national forest land, passed the same senate committee.

Hopefully, these bills will be on the governors desk very soon.

Will liberty win the day in Tennessee?

was the one about carrying where achohol is served passed.  I am no longer a bar stool jockey, but having to disarm just because a resteraunt serves achohol is stupid is my mind or pass through a metal detector at an aquirium because they added a resteruant that served achohol

These bills have been passed but....guess what? A bunch of restaurants and bars are still banning guns. Also, a bunch of places are still banning guns in parks too. What is the point of the State passing laws if they can be over ruled at a local level?
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to see the laws being passed but I am still scatching my head as to why small minded bigots are allowed to overturn the law.

Well, it has pointed out who the opponents are at a local level for one thing.  It forced the local city and county commissions to reveal there position on the subject.  You know what to do now don't you?

Also, the gun laws didn't get this way overnight, and won't be fixed overnight.

One step at a time, now that the legislature has seen how the local government is handling it then maybe they'll take the next step.

That said, any business can post a sign and prohibit the carrying of weapons while on their premise.
