How's the flu treating you?
« on: February 26, 2009, 02:27:00 PM »
My immediate bunch got our flu shots last year. That is the wife and I, kids, grandkids, and greatgrandkid. Then we all caught the flu a few weeks later. Now we all, except me, have had or have it again. My wife has been really sick all week and is just now showing signs of recuperating. Wife talked to her sister who is close to Yuma, AZ this morning and it is the same deal out there. All of her family have it or have had it.

My wife and I have been getting our flu shots ever year forever it seems and this is the first year they have failed us.

My wife is in the medical field, so she has to get a flu shot. She has had a pretty mild winter so far, one time she thought she was coming down with a cold, took some Zicam, extra sleep and juice, and she was fine.
Me, on the other hand, to old and obstinate, I'll just tough it out.(what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right!) I had the flu pretty bad in Dec., and now I have a cough that I can't seem to get rid of. Going on 2 weeks. Somedays, I feel pretty good, then I'll get a dry cough, feels like something in my chest, but nothing comes up. Some people at the gun shows have said they've had it for 3 weeks or better. I think when the weather warms up, and we get more sunshine, it should improve.  gypsyman

I don't remember having the Flu since I was a kid. I have even gone a couple years in a row without a cold. My daughter goes to school and comes home sick every now and then although I never remember her getting the Flu either. She missed a couple days of school a couple weeks ago because she got some kind of stomach thing. Dale

Last year was the first year that I didn't get a flu shot and I got the flu and tried to just tough it out but it turned into bronchitis. THAT SUCKS!!! I would cough up stuff all day and when I would go to lay down I could only breath short breaths or I would start coughing. I got some medicine for it and after two days it was gone. Gypsy-I got a cold about 2 weeks ago and still have that same cough as well.

I got it this season on Dec 15.   I missed the next 4 days of work....something I have never done in 37 years of working.    Had a relapse Christmas eve and Day....in bed and couldn't get out.    Turned into a long standing upper respiratory crud that lasted eight weeks and 3 rounds of antibiotics.

Lungs finally got clear on Feb 18.

I missed my flu shot this year.....don't know if it would have helped, but I know the bug this year seems to be stronger and nastier than ever in the past.

Don't take no stinking flu shots. None of us have had the flu or really even a cold in a few years here at my house. Since we're all retired and don't go to work or school or other such places where masses congregate we don't get sick.

The worse case of flu I ever had was after taking the shot. It is after all a live culture of it that's in there so what do you really expect? Plus I am alergic to the carrier used in the shots anyway.

I have come to the conclusion that if you want to avoid whatever contagion is going around you must stay out of contact with folks who have it. If that's not do able for you then just accept the fact you're gonna get it and then pass it on to others and it's a vicious circle until conditions for it change. We have minimal personal contact with the outside world during cold weather and we avoid the things going around.

I take the shot every year and never get sick, don't rightly know if the shot has anything to do with it.
