The ones that I saw at Gander Mtn. in Syracuse and New Hartford, Ny were all stamped SB2 on the barrels.

What's stamped on the barrel is irrelevant, they've always done that.

The SB1 frames are marked with similar wording that's on the website. They also have the new style checkered synthetic stocks and no sights, just a scope rail.....unless they made something different for Gander, which is always possible, but the SB1 frame should still be marked.

Tim

*Note: The frame of the 44 Mag. (SB1-S44) and the 357 Mag. (SB1-S35) cannot be fit with any other centerfire rifle barrel. They are capable of being fit with accessory shotgun barrels, but their rifle capability is limited to the specific 44 or 357 Mag. barrel that it is shipped on the gun.

I am sure hoping mine comes with a SB2 frame made after 1999.

Whatcha really should hope for is an SB2 frame made in mid to late 2007, then it should have a Marlin made barrel with the tighter bore.  ;) But since you plan on shooting oversize cast anyway, it could still be a good shooter. It could always have a late model accessory barrel on it too.

I finally got around to slugging my .444 Marlin barrel recently and it is definitely one of the older style with the 1 in 38 twist rate. It measured in at 0.4328"!  :o  That was measured from two slugs and a nice Starrett micrometer. That explains why it shot so poorly with .429 jacketed bullets! I would definitely recommend buying the post 2007 barrels if you plan on shooting jacketed rounds since the .444 and .44 Mags are from the same blank. I'm already seeking out wheel weight sources, about to order up a mold, and will probably have to lap it out to get the desired 0.001 to 0.002" over groove diameter.

My experience has been that bullets as cast tend to be at least .003 big so the sizer has something to work with.  My rifle won't be here till monday as it didn't show today. Seems Mardi Gras had something to do with it getting shipped late.

Well it came today, basic wood stocked Handi marked HX.  It's not a microgroove barrel so maybe I got what I hoped for, a 2007 tight bored 44 magnum. It appears as new and unfired.  Going outside to shoot it after I clean the barrel.

About a month ago the Gander Mountain at Hattiesbug, MS had several 44mag with the SB2 tag.  They were wood stock with sights (I think the set-up for the SB2 44 mag?).  Would like to have one but their price was $279.95.  Have not checked since deer season closed but that price is a little on the high side to me ???

Since the laws changed in MS for the primitive weapons season, we are paying a premium price for anything the law allows for primitive firearms use during this season.  I was in Virginia last summer and bought 45-70 ammo for $8.00 a box cheaper at Dick's than the local walley in my area.
