Who made this gun?

I have a 30-06 rifle that I was told was mfg. by a company in Germany called "Vouer"(not sure of spelling). The barrel reads:
"Model 770 EHM 30-06 cal.  Made in West-Germany"

Does this ring a bell with anyone? I was told that this same company used to make the actions for Weatherby at one time. It does have a very smooth action. I would appreciate anyone's help. Thanks.

If you mean your rifle is the VOERE, then it is probably Austrian-made, rather than German.

Yes, it's true that the earliest Weatherby rifles were made in West Germany, but I'd heard that it was Sauer, and not Voere that made them.

Who knows.  The way companies come and go and get consolidated, maybe Sauer and Voere are one and the same now.

All I know for sure is what is on the barrel, which says " made in West-Germany".  The seller said who he thought made it. Maybe even he didn't know for sure. Otherwise, there is no brand name on the gun anywhere. However, there is some very nice, detailed engraving of a stag on the bottom plate where the cartridges go.

As I understand it, there are relatively few barrel makers in West Germany.

Much, if not most of the post-WWII bolt action rifles produced in Germany are Mauser 98 actions barreled, finished, and stocked in Germany.

Voere is a higher-end bolt action product, and is quite distinctive.  I dunno if they made Mauser 98 rifles.

From what I can make out, in 1987 Voere-Austria sold the rights to Mauser-Werke... (Germany) and they were then sold under the Mauser name. There is a Titan series of high end rifles. They were chambered in the standard calibers but also in 257, 270 and 300 Weatherby . Can't find anything on a M770 EHM.

It was built by Heym. I'm guessing it's a 98 action right? If it's what I think it is, they were real nice actions. Check to see if the magazine was opened up in the front. The one I had was a little shorter in length than the normal 98. I wish I would have kept it and built a 7x57 Mauser deer rifle. Excellent actions.

Here's a quote from another site...

"EHM is the German 3-letter code for "Friedrich Wilhelm Heym." If you remove the stock you will find F.W. Heym marked on the underside of the barrel. In the immediate post-war days, Heym made nice quality mausers on FN actions. They were imported by Westernfield into the US. This continued until Mauser put them under contract to make the 2000, 3000 and 4000 series rifles. When Heym went back on their own, they began the SR series instead of returning to their 98 roots. Yours is fine rifle that will probably shoot as good as it looks."

Yes the action in a 98, very nice, and it does shoot very well. I'm thinking of rebarrelling it to a .35 Whelen. I will post some pics soon, but my camera is not working correctly at the moment.
