Pro Hunter barrels
« on: February 27, 2009, 03:13:25 AM »
I just recieved a new PH  barrel in 223.Does anyone have any loads that will shoot real good?.I have tryed some loads with BLC-2,and,some in !MR 4895 that was pretty good.Bouth powders shot the best with Noz.Par.
50-60grs respectivley, with both powders. They shot about 1" at 100 yds, with the best loads. While cleaning,i found that the barrel was rubbing at some of the forarm and wings at the frame.I have since removed all rubbs.I will try and see if i can do better with my loads, now that i have corrected the rubbing.
Thanks a bunch for any and all loads that can help me in my quest for one hole groups ;D.lol.pan.

Panman,
I got a 1/2" grouper load using Hornady 40 v-max's and Benchmark. CCI450 primers, Winchester cases. I ended up using the max load listed on the Hodgdon web site. I think it's on the powder bottle, too. They list 27.3 grs. for Nosler 40 gr. BT's so as always, be careful and work up, especially when not using the exact same bullet, etc. Still working on my own 60 grain loads, I'll get back after I get something worked up.

Thanks for responding Wally :).I to have noticed that these barrels like the lighter pills.I have found that REM.45 GR.JHPs,factory shoot one hole groups, about the size of a quater,10 shots.I had some promising loads for the 60s and im still working on them.Another load i found is 55GR horn.shoot real good using IMR4198.I try and shoot woodchucks in some fields in NY state that are a LONG way off. Some of the shots are at least 500yds or longer :o.Back in the 70s i did a LOT of it using 243s and 22-250s.I was young then and shot most of the time i had off.Im older than dirt now, and just geting back in to long range shooting. The heavyer pills will buck the breezes and distances just a tad better.Im going to try a few other powders and bullet combos and will get back to ya.Anyone else ;D??.thanks pan :).

I'd really appreciate any info on factory loads anyone has had success with in the 223,28" prohunter barrells.
Thanks for all the great info on this forum

Wilks, the only factory that i have tryied is the REM.45GR JHP.In my barrel they shoot one hole groups, and i do mean one hole. You can cover them with a dime, ten shots ;D.I havnet tryed out very many as it is real cold here in VT,pluss, the wind is not good for grouping :'( :(.When things get better, ill have more info, hopefully ;).
Have you any luck finding anything that is worth shooting?.Do you reload?Let me no if you come up with anything worth while, thanks, pan :).
