From my gun club, a lot of the kids are getting them a few months ago and have seen the opposite quality and also stated by CMP web site itself. Conflicting the
"but show little evidence of use" statment.

R22M44 Mossberg M44 U.S. - $175
R22M44 - These rifles were manufactured for the U.S. Army between 1943 and 1949. The M44 weighs 8 lbs. and is 43 inches in length and comes equipped with a Mossberg micrometer click receiver peep sight. Ammunition is fed through a 7 round detachable magazine (not sold with the rifle). CMP does have a small quantity of these magazines and they may be purchased separately while quantities last. Trigger guards are made of plastic that has shrunk and has become very brittle. Many of the trigger guards are cracked. Those that are not cracked may crack during shipment or later use. Replacement trigger guards are not available through the CMP, but are available from commercial sources. Red / Green plastic safety indicator buttons may be missing.
Shipping and Handling $22.95 per rifle.
It's nice and clean. I picked it up today and cleaned it inside and out. Taking it for a range test tomorrow if it doesn't rain to hard tomorrow. If I can confirm new better quality, I may pick up a second for the boy. -g
