I have a load for my trusty 30-06 that consists of 58 grs of IMR 4350 behind a 165 gr Hornady interlock SP. I am having problems finding IMR 4350 locally. By looking at the burn rate chart, H4350 and Accurate 4350 seem to be similar to the IMR. Load data shows different charges for these powders when compared to IMR 4350. Are they similar?
I use both IMR4350 and AA4350.Here is what AA says in their manual;
4350 165 BAR X 51.3 2,428 57.0 2,759 56,300 3.245
They show a 57 gr max load at 2759 fps with 56,300 psi with the Barnes bullet in their test barrel.
I worked up starting at 56 gr AA4350 and worked up to 60 gr in 1/2 gr increments. I used W-W cases and WLR primers and the 165 Hornady InterLok BTSP. In my M70 Classic with 24" barrel I settled on 59.5 gr which pressure tested (M43 Oehler PBL) in that rifle at 58,300 psi(M43) with a velocity of runs 2839 fps. This rifle is relatively new with a pretty tight chamber but at 60 gr right at 60,000 psi I had no high pressure signs. Accuracy has been consistent sub moa with the 59.5 gr load. Last time I grouped it the 1st five shots went into .85" and five more on top of that gave a 1.18" group for the ten shots. Suggest you work up in your own rifle and watch for the usual pressure signs.
