Pattern Board Plans

I would like to construct a frame for patterning a shotgun, perhaps from PVC pipe to take to the range. I was thinking of having a roll of paper below that can be pulled up and attached to the top. Has anyone done anything like this? Will just paper without a backing be ok or would it rip to much? Another possibility is to have a PVC base that holds wood legs and a piece of plywood that you staple the paper to.

Better make it of metal if you want it to survive thru that roll of paper.

Other than for turkey loads I do my patterning on the skeet range. I judge how I break the targets to determine if the gun is shooting where I'm looking or not and how well the pattern is being evenly or unevenly spread. If wingshooting is your goal I'm of the opinion that shooting a stationary object is a silly way to tell what the gun is doing.

If turkey hunting is your goal it has it's place however.
