To be honest, once you pick up on the basic concept of LR shooting, if your survivor groups less than 1moa, you should be fine.
Start off w/ a .22lr. Learn how the distance, and wind effect your shot and how to adjust.
Then get out your .308. I use pallet linings (4'x4' cardboard) and space them out at 100 yard intervals. Out to about 500 yards if possible. Zero your rifle for about 300 yards. Then find out how high it shoots at 100 and 200. Learn how to read the wind and adjust for it. You'll have a good time.
