Yes and no. The actual 7-08 is way too much for the Contender. BUT SSK makes the 7 JDJ #2 which is the .307 Win. case necked down to 7MM with the neck pushed forward and shoulder angle changed to I think 40 degrees for a maximized and improved case. It has a larger case capacity than the 7-08 and is the hottest 7 MM you can put in the Contender. Still it is gonna come up fully 200 fps slower than the 7-08 in the Encore.

yes, i've got a 15" stainless 7-08 encore. love it. took one deer with it so far. used H4895 and 120gr nosler balistic tip. accuracy is good so far. the handloads seem more consistent than the one factory load i tried, although the factory load did give reasonable accuracy. the 7-08 has plenty of knockdown for deer, as do several others. if your new to handguns the best thing you can do is practice extensively with any caliber you get. shot placement is extremely important. limit your shots to what you think you can do. if you put in plenty of practice time, you'll know what you and your gun can handle.

GB, what is the cup level on the 7mmJDJ#2 it seems it would be pushing it in the Contender ?
