I assume this is your Marlin bolt...

7mm-08, I would think either the 2-7x33 or 3-9 x40 is perfect. The rifle will come with a 1 piece base. I would go with a good set of Warne, Millett or Leupold med high rings. The rings are going to set you back in the $40ish range.

Scope: I would think a Bushnell Elite 3200 with rainguard would be an excellant choice and it fits the price range your looking at. They sell in the $180 range. Another good choice would be Leupold VX1, similar price.

I like the Bushnell elite 3200 on my small compact Model seven package, I used weaver 2 piece steel bases and rings (didn't like the Leupold 1 piece base look)  The 32mm objective mounts low and keeps this very manageable in the woods.Has a very good field of view. The sighting adjustments are 1/4" at 100 yards (1/4 MOA) and the parallax is set at 100 yards.
picked mine up for 199.00,  Rain guard really works.

Specifications:
# Field of View at 100 yards: 44.6-12.7'
# Optimum Eye Relief: 3"
# Overall Length: 11.6"
# Weight in ounces: 12
# Maximum Adjustment: 50 MOA

Bushnells 3-9x40 is also about 199.00 specs are as follows:

Specifications:
# Field of View at 100 yards: 33.8-11.5'
# Optimum Eye Relief: 3.3"
# Overall Length: 12.6"
# Weight in ounces: 13
# Maximum Adjustment: 50 MOA

Either Bushnell model would work well as I'm sure Leupold as well.

One other mfg You may want to check out is Burris.

Burris offers a 2-7x35 fullfield II for 169.00
(puts you right in the middle Objective size wise between 2-7x32 and 3-9x40)

# Field of View at 100 yards: 45-17
Exit Pupil (mm) Low -High: 16-4.6
Click Value (Inch@100yards):.5
Max Adj. (Inch@100yards): 60
Weight (Ounces):    12

Burris also offers a 3-9x40 Fullfield II for 189.00

they also have a new line (Timberline ) This is the replacement line of their short mags and a step down from Fullfield II I believe if you don't want a 40mm Objective but want a 3-9x flexibility they offer a 3-9x32 for 169.00

I really like the Nikon Buckmaster.  I have one in 3x9x50, and they can be had for under $300.  But I have to say, they are worth every penny.  You can't go wrong with Nikon.

I would recomand the 2 1/2 x 7 Leupold. As for mounts I like the old redfield mounts, but to tell the truth Weaver mounts should do just as well as this rifle will not have a bunch of recoil.
