I am in the process of purchasing one of these in 50 cal. first off I am a sidelock shooter never cared much for the inlines but I do like the looks of the Scout. I also only use the holy black, no fake powders for me.
  does anyone have any starting loads they would share? I will be primarily be shooting round balls but have REALs and maxiball to try also.
  any and all help would be appreciated.

I had one I shot a sabot 240 grain bullet from Hornady. My load was 80 grains.

I've never seen an inline that wouldn't shoot a T/C Cheap Shot over 80 grains of 3F.  The subs work fine, and there's no reason not to use them.

CVAs are some of the most accurate muzzleloaders on the market.  The problem isn't their accuracy.

well a scout os a 1:38 twist, which does not shoot sabots well, so your load I doubt very much will shoot well in the scout. I shot 80 grains of goex ffg in mine I had years ago along with a lee real bullet in 250 grain.  The problem with a scout is the nipple set up.  In the first place it is almost impossible to find a replacement nipple/breeh plug any longer.  Also the hole plugs very easily in the end of the breech plug/ nipple.  and you have to tear the gun apart to get the nipple out to unlug it.

First off, forget about shooting round balls, you will be wasteing your time.

Some TC Scout 50 calibers had a 1:20 twist. Not exactly your round ball set up.

I bought one of the first 50 cal. scouts when they came out and hunted with it up to last
year,put down many whitetails over the years.

I just got tired of tearing it apart everytime to clean it.

I ran a lot of different powders,bullets and sabots through that gun before I came up with
an accurate load that put deer down quickly.

What I ended up with and used for many years and never lost a deer was:

80 grs 2f  Goex black
Barnes MZ sabot 250 gr.
CCI #11 magnum cap

Never knew what the velocity was for that load, but did put deer down very quickly.
The 250 gr MZ is a devastating bullet on deer, rarely going more than 25 yds.
It is a tight fit but goes down fairly well, in my testing the scout would not shoot
loose fitting sabots or all lead bullets.

Since I used that bullet for many years and had very good results, that was the first
sabot I tried in my TC Triumph, NOT, no way was that bullet going down that barrel.

I had a Scout and it shot 80gr. sub powders with 348gr. Powerbelts fairly well. I sold it due to the crazy breechplug and the difficulty in cleaning the channel to the powder. Not sure what the designer had in mind when he came up with the crazy system it has. Personally I would buy a lot of other rifles before a Scout.

i shoot 90 grains of 2ff under a 250grain .45xtp black sabot. can get 1in. groups at 100yards. also it shoots tc maxi balls very well never had a problem with it going off killed a lot of deer with it and a few yotes

Their problem is that they are scary.

I wouldn't discount shooting patched round balls in fast twist barrels.  I do it with great sucess.

1:38 shoots sabots very well, I have a Thompson WMC that proves it, 240 gr xtp & 90 grains of BP.  Mike

Dunno 'bout .50 cal or 1:38", but I have a .54 w/1:20" and an extra bbl. sittin' up in the floor joists in the man cave collecting dust.

I'd give it to any poor optimist (masochist?) who cared to come up here and pick it up!
