Outlawing Knives
« on: March 04, 2009, 02:27:13 PM »
I had a pocket knife confiscated from me once while I was in England, stupid tourist that I am. I thought that was a joke and a sign of how weak the UK has become ... until recently here in Hawaii there is a bill proposing the banning of pocket knives. I'm in the USA?!? I get mad at my son when he doesn't have one on him, and my 16yo daughter has one in her purse all the time. And now I could have a weapons charge, lose my clearance and my job, for the 3" buck in my pocket.

So I pulled the following out of the news in England to see what the future holds for us here:

"The maximum sentence for carrying a knife in a public place is two years in jail, rising to four years if the offence was committed in a school. In 1997, 4,466 people were convicted of "having an article with a blade or point in a public place", a figure that rose to 7,654 by 2006. There were 60,366 prosecutions over the 10-year period, of which 47,338 resulted in a conviction.

Over the same period, 495 people were prosecuted for having a knife in a school. Of these, 479 were found guilty, yet only nine people were given the maximum possible sentence, Mr Straw admitted. James Brokenshire, the shadow home affairs minister, called the findings "disturbing".

Knife crime facts

- 14 teenagers have been stabbed to death in Britain this year
- A third of murders are committed with knives
- Four per cent of young people aged 10 to 25 admitted in a Home Office survey to having carried a knife in the previous 12 months
- 550 metal-detecting wands and 244 metal-scanning arches have been deployed by the Metropolitan Police across inner London boroughs as part of its stop-and-search operation
- 934 knives, guns and other lethal weapons were seized from children in schools between 2005 and 2007
- One in three young people living in inner cities thinks it is acceptable to carry a knife in self-defence, a survey found "

Don't forget the current efforts in England to ban kitchen knives with points. Kitchen knives are expected to have a blunt shape like a butter knife.

Australia has already done this, and we will eventually get some of it. Even in Texas, the blade has to be under 6"s, and it has been that way for years in terms of carry. Go figure. ???

The English have become such a weak people. I have spent quite a bit of time in England and Ireland and most of the men seem like they are 1/2 women. This is especially true with the younger men. Being feminine as a man in England is becoming fashionable thanks to social engineering.

Have you not been paying attention here in the states. Go to the mall and many look like a weird version of Boy George. Then you have all the piercings, tattoos, multi-colored hair, and their pants down below their crack with their drawers showing if they have any on. Oh yea! And ipod plugs stuck in their ears. What a damn mess our American kids are. I'm afraid to criticize other countries kids. Hell, I can't even make fun of Canada anymore. We're more socialistic than they are, and it took less than a year to catch'em. ::) I'd move, but I don't know where I'd go. :-[

I have often thought about buying a small island, and then declaring war on the U.S. Then as soon as the first coast guard cutter showed up, I could surrender, and get foreign aid the rest of my life.

Do the "bobbies" still not carry weapons there?

Not that I remember seeing. I know they defiantly did not a few years back when I was there but I honestly can't remember the last time I was there which was less than a year ago. I seem to recall they did at Heathrow Airport. But can't remember the bobbies out on the street beat. Also, I can't remember ever seeing a cop in Ireland other than in their squad cars. So I'm really not sure about there either. I do remember cops in Germany and Amsterdam carrying.

A friend of mine is a retired Bobby and he says only a special team can carry firearms, and theirs carried singleshot 9mm rifles. He was shot on duty and decided the baton wasn't working so retired. They have high turnover.

English have been very good about outlawing any sort of weapon for the last 70 to 80 years. Beginning of WW11, please send use some firearms. Then they had the balls to destroy them when we saved their sorry ass's. It won't be long, and the Muzzies will eat them alive with terrorist acts. And, they'll probably be on their knee's again, please send use something to help defend ourselves. Maybe after a few thousand of them are beheaded, they'll get some kahuna's and figure out they hafta to take care of themselves.  gypsyman

In the news this A.M.    Man guilty of killing 'Harry Potter' actor

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/03/04/uk.potter.star.murdered/index.html

LONDON, England (CNN) -- A habitually violent young man was convicted Wednesday of the murder of teenage actor Rob Knox, who had starred in the latest "Harry Potter" film.

The father, brother and mother of Rob Knox pose together after the death of the young actor.

Karl Bishop, 22, attacked Knox and four friends with two kitchen knives outside a bar in Sidcup, south east London, last May. He stabbed them 10 times in less than two minutes, the Old Bailey court in central London heard.

Knox, 18, had rushed out of the bar after he heard that Bishop had threatened his younger brother Jamie but he ended up being stabbed five times, once in a main artery. He died in hospital later that night.

Bystanders said Bishop's face was "screwed up in rage" as he lashed out with the two knives, the Press Association reported.

Days before the attack, the actor had finished filming on "Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince," due for international release in July, in which he played the role of Marcus Belby. He was set to reprise the part in future "Harry Potter" films.

Knox's father Colin told mourners at his funeral, including co-star Rupert Grint, that his son had been "living the dream," PA said.

Prosecutor Brian Altman told the court that the young actor's promising life was ended by a "habitual knife carrier" who believed stabbing people was an "occupational hazard" and had previous convictions for knife crime.

Bishop is due to be sentenced on Thursday.

Knife crime in Britain is a political hot topic due to a spate of recent killings of mainly young people in major cities. UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown has urged tougher sentences for those caught carrying knives. He told the Daily Telegraph last month: "By carrying a knife you are not only endangering the lives of others, but you are more likely to be killed, or end up in jail.

"We need to change the way young people think about knives, we need families and communities working together ... to get this message across and help stamp out knife crime and get weapons off our streets."

Well, you have to remember, their mind set in England. They've always been called ''subjects''. It's the way they are brought up. Gov't has always taken care of them, from the fudal state's 500-700 years ago. They've never actually been free, as far as what we, here in the U.S. consider. Actually, probably not much different than the way the Muzzies bring up their children. From an early age, they teach to hate, in England their taught to depend on the govt.  gypsyman

"Over there" is over here now - banning knives in I guess several states now including the one in which I am stationed. Keep the boys drugged up, effeminate, and unarmed - suppress all natural aggressive urges, and elevate the female as the ideal citizen of the US.

police in england do not carry guns.  had an intern at work several years ago that was from sheffield & we got on that topic while discussing how law enforcement works over in jolly old england.  he said they are armed with only a night stick & if they need firepower there's a special tactical response team they have to call in & they show up in a big armoured truck.

back to the topic of knives, my good friend & i were discussing the gun issues & we concluded that outlawing guns would open the flood gates to so many things.  if guns are outlawed, people will resort to using knives as their defense.  well, then the goverment would outlaw knives.  so then people would start using table knives ... then forks ... then when forks become too deadly for the average american to handle, they'll outlaw those too.  then people will start scewering each other with chop sticks.  we were only half joking about the knives, forks & chop sticks ... maybe we better bury a few extra place settings in the backyard for safekeeping (a few paces west of the ammo & gun).  it's a slippery slope ...

keep an eye on connecticut, too.  there's a group that's wanting to get it to where the state runs the catholic church.  that's a major violation of separation of church & state but if that goes thru, that will also open the flood gates for other states follow suit.  slowly the governemnt is attempting to whittle away at our rights.  one thing at a time, little by little.
eventually there will be nothing left.  another slippery slope ...

People have been killing each other since Cain killed Able... When is the government going to outlaw its citizens from having hands?  Really thats where the problem starts... hands can strangle, they can hold a knife, they can pull the trigger on a gun... turn the key and push the button to launch a nuke...

I really like the idea of buyin my own island. First thing is call up Russia and offer to let them have a base there. Then call up the US and offer to not do it for a price. You know hold the line on the advance of Communisim. I would get billions in aid hell my own landing strip and maybe a US armed and trained 10 man army to repel invaders. Thats it damn wish I had thought of it........

As to the other thoughts in this thread, you will never stop murder rape or robbery. Its in the human nature to take from those less powerful. No matter if it is a big stick people will use whatever is available to become the most powerful and to prey on the weak. No legislation has ever stopped it.

Just like the guy that just killed 10 or 11 or whatever in Alabama you can plan all you want but you will not stop that crap from happening. It not the weapon used but the person that is the problem.

So we keep coming up with all these restrictions to stop this crap from taking place with no effect. It is simple give all guns and knives and they will have a chance to stop it . Also the real cowards will think twice about jumping an old man or woman if they think they just might have a weapon and kill them.
