If you go to ElPaso/Juarez you will quickly understand when you see the activity crossing the boarder, Its not like their is something special on either side to see but if you look across the border you will quickly see the cardboaed shacks they live in and at night you wont even know hardly anyone lives there ( no elec ) just another nasty border town.   Jim

Sounds like a good place for a very high fence and plenty of armed patrols.

Do you happen to know what kinds of drugs are being handled? I can't believe this is just marijuana traffic.

(Interesting, but not directly related statistic: California marijuana sales are estimated to be about twice that of California fresh fruit and vegetable sales.)

The answer to the title of this thread from a life long, and proud Texan. WAR MY FRIEND! Listen to something other than Fox New (the fair and balanced one ::)), and learn that the Mexican Government is near collapse, and will indeed collapse. The Mexican people do not have the nerve needed to throw out a corrupt government, but the drug cartels certainly do, and WILL.

The count given in the local paper is 1600 killed in Juarez. The 5000+ is for all of Mexico.

i don't know where you were, when you were looking across the border,(maybe North end) but
i lived there in the 80s and they had elec. then and still do.
I have friends that still live there and they say their is no more running back and forth across the border like we used to.  the article i read said that the
drug cartels in Mex. are about at the same point they were in Columbia in
the 80s. They forced the chief of police in Juarez to quit his job, they are
hiring top military people and having them quit their jobs.
My friends say you are truly taking your life in your on hands when you cross the border now.

guess I'd rather have a corrupt government that I have to bribe than a drug lord that kills anyone that pisses him off.  Of course I'd MUCH RATHER have a democratic republic whose legislators are service minded individuals with morals and values above reproach but I'll probably see one of the first two before I see the third huh?

Years ago while stationed at Matagorda Island, Reynosa Mexico was our playground (across from McAllen, TX).  It was a nice quite Mexican city with good bars and good restaurants.  Today it is one of the murder capitals along the border.  The dollar value of cocaine has the dealers fighting each other as well as the police for control.  A lot has been written about the number of guns going from America to Mexico, but the quantity and types of guns points to a source other than American gun show.

I use to visit Mexico occasionally, had some great fishing and hunting experiences down there, but I can live without it today.  Matter of fact, I would encourage everyone who lives near the border to arm themselves, you may see the day, and soon, that you have to protect yourself and family from the dealers.

They handle any drugs that sell well in the U.S. your guess is as good as anyones what that is.
Some where i read an article that the Columbians are now building MINI SUBS
that are 45-50' long run just under the surface with a couple of pipes and a small glass dome sticking up about 1-2' hauls about 6-7 tons they use these to del.
drugs to the central coast of Mex. on the western side. After they deliver they sink the mini sub. Cost is approx $500,000, they have caught 2-3 they have one on display in FL. tell me drugs don't pay, when you can use a $500,000.00 boat
one time and sink it.

The Mexican people are in trouble and we as Americans need to give up our constituion and related freedoms to help them. If we don't, the Mexcian drug gangs won't give up terrorizing the Mexican people. If we build a wall between us and Mexico, the drug lords will continue the violence. But it won't be untill we give up the 2nd Amendment to Eric Holder, our new Attorney General, will the Mexican people be safe. The Mexican authorities all agree with Eric on this this point so its the right thing to do.

Building a wall between us and Mexico serves no purpose for Mexico's interest and armed law abiding American citizens pose a serious threat to the Mexican people.

There must have been some trouble down there yesterday, my mom and dad went into Mexico by McAllen yesterday and when they came back out the Mexican Army was at the border crossing with armoured vehicles.

I'm really sad to hear Jaurez has fallen so far, back in 89 when I was stationed at Ft. Bliss, we would go to J town every weekend for some I and I. We were actually safer in Jaurez than in El Paso at that time.

I was in Juarez 9 years ago on business. Yeah you guessed it; moving jobs to Mexico. Any way while down there, there was a ranch just South of the city, where they uncovered 130+ bodies. Every day in the news there was a few bodies found in the dessert around the city.
While working at the new facility, a few of us went for a walk during a lunch break. We started down the side walk towards the tracks which was running beside the facility. The plant manager came running out and told us not to cross the tracks, if you did, you just might not come back. If we wanted to go for a walk to go the other way toward other factories. Most of the killings are drug related, but there just plain robbers that will kill you for a few dollars too. I have not traveled out side the States, except the two trips I made to Juarez, but it was the dirtiest place I have ever been, small children that looked like they had not had a bath in months were begging for money. It is not a place I relish going back to.

Full auto's and bazookas. You know, the kind you can only pick up at the guns shows due to the loop hole Eric Holder pointed out.

Still say we need to annex Mexico.  Turn half the Border Patrol into US Marshals and let them clean house.  Then one small border with Belize and Guatemala would be easier to patrol.  It would also give snow birds a new place to go, since Arizonia and Florida are getting crowded.

Crack, meth, cocaine, and marijuana is what is being brought across the border.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Whats going on? Lets see wholesale murder, rapes, robbery, and just about anything else that borders on all out terror. Almost all of it directly related to Drugs and control of areas within Mexico.

Mexico has had some of the strictest gun laws of any country for a long, long time. Good example of what happens when the civilian population is mostly unarmed. Thes people are helpless to defend themselves or their families against well armed drug gangs and an Army that is corrupt. They are between a rock and a hard place.

Juares is a very dangerous place as well as the rest of Mexico. There is an economic collapse coming to them very soon and that will spark the civilians rushing to the USA as fast as they can swim or run. That will spark a lot of unrest along the US border towns that are stressed now. That will cause the violence to rage in our border towns and cities.

Not looking good not at all.

I hunt S.Texas and it's rather unnerving to be sitting in my deer blind and see groups of illegals moving thru the brush,at least it was unnerving the FIRST time. Why isn't the border closed? Money! It's a cash cow that will never end. Let's see,Jose (or Billy Boy) gets caught with some drugs;he needs a lawyer. The lawyer needs a judge and both need law enforcement which makes money off confiscated vehicles, property, etc. BUT,mark my words, the day is coming when a Real terrorist crosses our southern border and does some major harm. Then the fence will go up pronto.  Kix

Actually, Dee, it was on Fox news where I seen the first of what is going on in Mexico. Didn't see a thing on CNN until a week or so later.(maybe their just busier at CNN!) And caught some of Becks interview with a guy from the Fed's last night. Was working with police in Atlanta, and how it's spreading up to there. It's going to get real messy, real soon. I'm sure it's already made it up here into Detroit,(ctn) and Chicago.HMMM-Obama's home town gypsyman

I would recommend that for everyone; not just those of us that live in border states.  As I looked at the map shared on the Glen Beck show yesterday the Mexican cartels have distribution centers in each and every state of the union with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii.  There is no doubt we need to secure our southern border, but we need to pay attention to the north too.  While the drug related violence is no joke, I believe we stand a greater chance to have some Islamic extremist filter in from our border to the north.

The gangs that control, or want control, operate both sides of the border.
They have gangs on the Texas side that procure mules for them and the warfare on this side would be much worse if it were not for OUR law enforcement folks.
That is not too say that there is not violence, and some of it involves/affects the locals, but they keep it within the family somewhat.
The problem is, when you involve the caliber of folks they recruit, there is not a lot of good thinking going on.

An update from today's paper says that Mexico is moving army troops into Juarez to stop the violence. Quite a few are there now and 5000 total will be there shortly. The murder rate is reported to have dropped 90% since the army's arrival.
