Kimber 8400
« on: September 02, 2003, 07:35:29 AM »
Good afternoon,   This is a follow up to the weight wise post.   Being new to the board, I did not realize I had to enter another post to reply.  I am also looking at the Kimber 8400 in a lefty.  No stainless barrel, but a nice wood stock.   No specs yet on weight, but I can get the new .270 WSM.  The price will be about $900.   Any thoughts on quality, accuracy.

I dont know anything about Kimber rifles except that they seem to have a good reputation.  But you do not have to start a new post to reply.  Just hit the reply button on the bottom of your screen. Then once you have written what you wanted hit "submit" at the bottom of that screen.  Have a good one :D

Curly,

I ordered the Kimber 8400 Montana (stainless synthetic) in .300 WSM and I have the 2003 Kimber catalog in front of me.

To answer your question about the gun's weight, the 8400 (blue/wood version) is 6 pounds 10 oz.  (The Montana is 8 oz. lighter at 6 pounds 2 oz.)  The weight is the same for the .270WSM, 7mmWSM, and 300WSM, and all carry 24" #2 barrels.

The barrels and chambers are match quality, and the action is glass bedded with the barrels free-floated.

Thanks for the replies.   I am a little disappointed to say the least.   I have called Kimber, and the lefty 8400 will not be available until after the first of the year, and I just called Weatherby, and they don't have any idea when they will left handed Accumarks available.  Their new catalog comes out in October, and that is when "customer service" will have an idea when the left handed guns will be available.   Unless a dealer has one in stock, I am out of luck.    Damned this handicap.

Curly,

From what quite a few people have told me, the Kimber is a finer quality rifle than Weatherby.  I must say that I have never owned either one, but, based on my research, I would wait until early next year and get the Kimber 8400.  Remember, good things come to those who wait.

On the other hand, you could take a look at the Tikkas.  And let me tell you, they are EXCELLENT HIGH QUALITY rifles.

Curly,
I just purchased a Kimber 84M and all I have to say is wait until the first of the year, you will be so happy.  Weighting in at 5 lb 10 oz this rifle is a dream.  Comes with a match trigger and barrel and also floated.  I have a Weatherby V mark, Browning A-bolt, Remington 700 and they do not hold a candle to the craftsmenship of the Kimber.  And like Zachery said "Good things come to those who wait."

I have two Kimbers, a 25-06 classic that shoots OK after much trial and effort finding a good load it likes.  About  6 weeks ago I got a 257 Roberts select grade, waited 9 months for it, pretty rifle and accptable trigger. It will shoot ok too but there claim of match grade barrels I question. 1.5 MOA is max. The one thing Kimber does well is advertisements. I would grade both rifles as overrated.
