bad influence good result
« on: March 05, 2009, 05:52:20 AM »
Last night while under the enfluence of a couple of Jack and cokes, I was shoping an auction site and made the purchase of a new 527 American in 223.  Been wanting one for some time and old Jack just gave the shove I needed.  I must learn not to mix him with auction sites.

I already have a CZ 457 in 17HMR with varmint barrel which is soooo sweet.   I have a the opportunity to play with my friends CZ in 6.5x55 which is just special. I have no great need for a 7.62x39 but after reading all the passionate remarks here about it, she will be next.

I hope to keep the 223 a small package so I will be looking for a compact scope.  Recommendations under $300 would be appreciated.   Thanks to you guys and Jack, I got my new shooter.  Gary

I found Burris FFII's to be shorter than normal and the 3-9x40 meets your price range.

Of course, if you could find one of their 4-14x32 short mags, which they stopped making, that would be even neater.  Got one on a 222rem and it works well.

Received my 223 at my local ffl yesterday and will putting some glass on it tomorrow.  Plan on a trip to the range in the very near future. I will keep folks posted.  Gary

Just remember that the goofy bolt hand shape restricts the ocular lens diameter significantly compared to every other rifle I've every handled (I have a 527 American just like you).  So, try the scope out before you buy it, and be prepared to either buy higher aftermarket rings or a small-ocular-lens scope.
