Marlin 62 question

  The Marlin 62 is most often found in 30 carbine (not counting rimfires), but acording to my research it was at least listed in their catalog in .357 and a few other calibers.  Were they actually made and sold in 357 magnum?

The 62 was only ever produced in two calibers - .256 Win Mag, and .30 Carbine. The Levermatic rimfires were models 56 and 57. I've got a 62 .30 Carbine - nice action, short stroke, pretty stock. Just a little gutless for more than varmints and cans. I'm guessing it was too small for hunting and too big for cheap plinking (back then anyway). Had they offered some other calibers they might have gone head to head with the Savage 99 which it looks an awful lot like. Or the Ruger leverguns.

I've seen references to model 62's having been made in .357 magnum and .22 rem. jet magnum . never have seen one or heard of anyone with one.

  I have to agree with TeamNelson about the Marlin giving the Savage 99 and the Ruger 96 a run for their money, IF they had made them in a few more calibers and kept making them.  There is much to be said for the short throw lever, and I don't see why there are so few offerings in that kind of action.  I have one of the Ruger 44 mag 96-44 rifles.  It's nice, but I wish it was available in .357.  I'm not a Ruger basher by any means, but I certainly give the nod to Marlin on many points of quality.  Enough said on that.
