1966 Profiled receiver 22 Rem Jet 158 Topper (PICS ADDED)
« on: March 07, 2009, 08:56:29 AM »
I stopped by a flea mkt today and picked up a 1966 Topper model 158 22 Rem Jet with the profiled receiver and barrel.  It is a little rough but looks like it will clean up nicely.  It has the snap on forearm and the red H&R recoil pad.  I am only a 1964 model so i thought was kinda neat finding a handi that is old like me....
The fellow I bought it from wished me luck and told me I would never find ammo for it... He doesn't know us handiholics very well...
I will try to get some pics up in a day or two...

and yes I got it CHEAP....

NICE SCORE!!!!

 HEY, I'm a '66 model myself!!!  ::) :-[

 I made some brass way back for a Contender barrel I had in Jet. LOTS of ruined brass!!! I found some supply of cases and used them. Sorry but they are long gone now.

Man I wish I could find one, course now I'm broke, but i'd find a way if i could find one. Have fun with it. By the way, Graf's has new PRVI brass for the 22 Jet for $27 per 100. You get tired of it, let me know, I'd take it. Otherwise I'm gonna try to get a barrel here soon to rechamber for the Jet. Billy

I don't want to say I am old because I alternately feel as if I am either 19 or 80, but I was graduating from High School when Tim was a just a freshman!!!....<><....:)

I have one of the old 22 jet barrels that sadly someone rechambered to 225 WIN.
I love the 225 cartridge but wish it still was a jet as I have a 223 barrel in 225.
I just picked up a 2007 Handi in 45-70 from my buddy and low and behold the old barrel fit like it was made for that frame.
Can't wait to take it out and see how it does.

There are a lot of good things about the old guns.  Walnut stocks, light weight, flush mounted wood where it attaches to the frame, dovetail rear sight, steel front sight.   The hammer spring seems a little weak but many are in the old guns and one chip in the forearm next to the spacer.

Remington could take some pointers from an old gun like this....

If you need some brass to load , I have some that I formed from 357 Mag , they were done in a set of Redding form dies and finished up in a Redding FL sizer & trimmed to spec.

I could part with 50 or so if you need them . ;) Just let me know .
