Hornady Interbond

Has anyone used Hornady Interbond bullets?  I would like to know how they perform on game.  Especially large Northern deer or Mule deer.  I will be using a 30-06.  No extreme loads, just middle of the powder range for either H-4350 or RL-19.  Thoughts?  I love reloading for my hunting rifles.  It is the ultimate what if game?  A little more of this, and less of that, change the C.O.L., change powders to something I already have on the shelf and showen in the reloading manuals.  Sorry I got a little carried away, here in MN the winter can be long.

I use the 154 grain Hornady Interbond in my 280 Rem AI and have killed numerous deer with it.  It just plain works.  The .308" 165 grain Interbond is very good in the 30-06.

I've used 165 grainers for deer and got excellent results. I've concluded that a 30-06 is too much gun for deer and mostly use my 25-06 or .243.

Hey there Val,

I wonder why you have found the 30/06 to be "too much gun" for deer.

Is it meat distruction?

I use a 300 win. Mag. on our Idaho Whitetails and never feel "over gunned."

I do however, use premium bullets in the form of Nosler 165gr. Partition, but from what I read, the "Interbond," a BONDED BULLET, should have almost as much integrity as the partition.

I do not feel under gunned with my .243 or the wife's 270, but choose to hunt almost entirely with one rifle which happens to be the 300 Win. Mag.

Will probably apply for a cow moose permit again this year, elk season is open for part of the whitetail season and a bear is always a possibility, so I am pretty much a one gun hunter.

Took two whitetails this past year, and as far as meat distruction, I am sold on the partition.

Have used the Partition for most of my hunting since one of the "old" pre interlock Hornadys came apart on me the Fall of 1968. I'm sure of that date, as I found the horns during a clean out of my shop this afternoon.

That was with a 243, 100gr Hornady and a Washington muley buck.

I do have Hornady interlock on the bench for .243, 270 and 30cal. but expect to keep using the Nosler Partition in my 300 as long as I can get or afford them.

I'm in So. Cal and what I hunt are Blacktails which are much smaller than the White Tails and Mulies that a lot of you hunt. The 30-06 smacks them pretty hard and although the meet destruction isn't excessive it is indeed a lot more than the .243 or 25-06. When I hunt in areas where there are bear and I have a Bear Tag I do use my 30-06. I also use Nosler Partitions and Accubonds and the Hornady Interbonds.

Guess I'm so set on quality bullets, in part because of what I saw done to a deer when I was a kid back in the 50s.

Thankfully I didn't make that bad hit, but the hit was to the ham of a muley, with of all things a 30/30.

In the 50 or so years since, I have seen a number of equally bad hits with much larger rounds but with MUCH!!!!!!!!!! better quality bullets, and they cause only a small portion of that 30/30s distruction.

That, along with the old pre interlock Hornady that came apart on me in the 1968 hunt, have made me a real believer in using quality bullets for hunting.

           my son shot a nice 8 point right in his bed with his 30-06 this year with 150 gr interbond.  very close range and bullet came apart completely, we only found the jacket.  he e-mailed hornady and told them their bullet should not have failed and they said what is the problem?  one shot, dead deer.  the bullet was loaded to 2750 fps.

Hey there Millwright,

That is not what I would be paying extra for an "Interbond" for.

We can get that same kind of results from any number of the old common cup and core bullets.

Sad to hear that, as I was expecting better from the Interbond.

The answer from Hornady was anything but what I would expect to hear, as their bullet failed. plain and simple.

Sound like back to the drawing board for Hornady, to me.

Sounds more like it was an Interlock not Interbond in your sons 06.  I'm pretty sure Steve Hornady would want to hear of any failure on the Interbond.  DP
