I'm looking for a plastic/fiberglass type stock for a Remington model 78 in 270win, which is nothing more then a 700 without a mag or floorplate. Don't like the Ramline type stocks, but also don't want to blow a lot on a Bell & Carlson neither. Nothing wrong with the wood stock, just want lower maintence and better stability for the long term. Any suggestions?

You could router out a trough in the barrel channel and glue in a piece of aluminum stock using glass bedding compound. Spray on several coats of polyurethane sealer/finish. (coat the inside of the stock and butt area too with a brush) You would have a stable more weather resistant stock for far less money. I did the poly finish on a Rem 760 and it protected the stock from weather damage. Dave

Yes, go to Auctionarms.com gunparts section and buy a takeoff fiberglass stock for a Remington 700 longaction ADL. Make sure it's labeled long action or LA, not SA. the SA is for the shorter 308/243 length actions. Also, you want the ADL, not the BDL stock. This stock should drop right in for your Sportsman 78...Gary D.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I haven't been over at the auction places in awhile. Will have to check it out.
