Does anyone have any experience with one of these. I occasionally check out Legacy Sports International's web site to see what they are doing new and ran across this. It’s a 12 inch barrel lever action that comes in 45lc, 44mag or 44-40. It has a cut off butt stock putting the guns overall at 24 inches long. This qualifies as a handgun. Pretty cool and I'd really like to get one in 45lc.

Sure looks like a short barrel rifle subject to NFA to me. I'd not jump too soon on this one as I have a feeling BATFE is gonna be all over it soon.

Maybe if I move faster than the feds and buy one it would be grand fathered in....Don't know but they do look darn good. At 3lbs it would be a great on a lion hunt but then again so would one of my revolvers. I imagine when the word gets out the SASS guys will be all over these.

I have to come up with good justification to buy one of these. Although they are not cheap.

i think (and i could be wrong) that if the receiver is classifed as a pistol from inception then its ok much like an ar15 lower that is intended to be a pistol since it was never made into a rifle and then cut down and made into a pistol. i hope that makes since

Those ARs still require registration and the $200 fee tho and must be bought thru a Class III dealer tho don't they?

not if it doesnt have a stock (which would make it an sbr) most of the ar15 pistols have a foam piece surroding the buffer tube so a stock cant fit. another way to look at it is the ruger charger since the recever is marked as a pistol and started life as a pistol its a pistol. the laws are kind of confusing (also i could be wrong about all of the above this is just how i understand it)

Nope GB, just buy a new AR lower using Pistol paper work and it is a pistol.  Trick is that is has to be new and never sold as other than a pistol.  I would guess it is sort of like the Contender thing.  Larry
