Lyman GPR Hunter
« on: September 02, 2003, 03:53:06 PM »
Hello to all. I've just moved from Shooters.com which is, I presume, defunct, since I haven't been able to get the site for about a week, now. Anyway, I will be getting my GPR Hunter Friday, & I understand there's a screw problem that needs to be corrected in the trigger section. Is that right? Can you guys who shoot this rifle enlighten me on this matter? I'm gonna use this rifle for hunting deer as well as plinking. Thanx for the feedback. jd45.

:D jd45.    I have not heard of any problems as of yet,but..........a quick call to Lyman might help you a lot.  I know that if and when I have a problem I just call the company and I have not as of yeet had anyproblems with thier info.  As a matter of fact.  I just had Traditions replace a bbl on a Penn caplock that I had had for two years and they fixed it for nothing.  You might want to try it.  Stay safe.........King

Hiya jd45,
It's not really a problem per say with the triggers. The gpr/h come factory with a double lever double set trigger, which mean's after cocking,, the front trigger will drop the hammer.,OR the rear trigger can be pulled to "set" a spring loaded cam/lever,, that is then released by the front trigger at a much lighter pull weight.( make sence?)
I think what you are refering too is the adjustment screw found between the 2 triggers that is used to adjust "pull weight" of the front trigger after "set". Many shooters feel that after full adjustment to a light pull, the factory screw will not allow the desired weight.
A longer screw installed there could lighten the pull weight, but because of legal issues,Lyman, nor anyone else should/can recommend finding a longer metric threaded screw to replace the factory one installed.
  :D

The .50 will fit the .54 an vice-versa, both are 15/16".

Any GM I.B.S. 15/16" can fit the GPR/H with only slight modification of the underlug position/s and cutting back the rail.

All ya need prop is a drill press or a damn steady hand with a cordless! one small tap too re-set the rail and 2 new underlugs from track for 2.50 each,2 borrowed tools from a friend in Minn. and your in!

BIG Rondy', in Albert Lee first week-end of OCT. They call it Big Island.

Im thinken the 50 cal would have the best varity of bullets, anyway i have a over abundance of them right now.How deep is the rifling on the gph?
5 or 6 i would think for a faster twist.Think i will snoop around the web or the lyman site.
The gph barrels go for around 125,which aint bad for droping in with sites.
Dought i get one this year, work is slow and money geten tigher, but i can still window shop. :)

I read on one of the forums, might have been here or Huntamerica, that you can't just buy a metric screw at the hardware store for the double set tensioner. Its an off thread type(or size) that a gunsmith may have. I think it was mentioned that clockmakers use that type.Mine seems to be about right the way it is,but I'v read that some take two fingers to set.
