Obama’s Dirty Little Secret
« on: March 08, 2009, 09:46:54 AM »
I found this write up to be very interesting and entertaining, especially after hearing from so many people that Obama is such a great public speaker. Be sure to view the video below to see what happens to Obama's speaking ability when he's a little tired and his teleprompter breaks.

Obama’s Dirty Little Secret

By Noel Sheppard
Associate Editor, NewsBusters.org

If former President George W. Bush had brought a teleprompter with him whenever he spoke at a public event, would the mainstream media — who were always looking for new ways to depict him as a nincompoop — have used it to prove their point?

If the answer is “Yes,” then why isn’t President Barack “Have Teleprompter, Will Travel” Obama being so eviscerated?

Our new president views his teleprompter much like the old American Express slogan: “Don’t leave home without it!”

Before you answer, consider what Politico’s Carol E. Lee reported Thursday:

President Barack Obama doesn’t go anywhere without his TelePrompter.

The textbook-sized panes of glass holding the president’s prepared remarks follow him wherever he speaks. … Obama’s reliance on the teleprompter is unusual — not only because he is famous for his oratory, but because no other president has used one so consistently and at so many events, large and small.

Wait a minute! Isn’t this the most intelligent man in the world? Can’t he memorize his speeches — regardless of how brief — like anybody else that engages in public oratory?

Apparently not. Just this morning, when Obama addressed Police Academy graduates in Columbus, Ohio, although he spoke for only about ten minutes, his trusty teleprompter was right by his side preventing him from making a boo boo.

Of course, as Lee pointed out, this crutch was quite obvious during the campaign:

After the teleprompter malfunctioned a few times last summer and Obama delivered some less-than-soaring speeches, reports surfaced that he was training to wean himself off of the device while on vacation in Hawaii.

For those of you who have forgotten, here’s candidate Obama speaking without his safety-net at a town hall meeting in Bristol, Virginia, last July:

[yt=425,350]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/eDJSVPAx8xc&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/eDJSVPAx8xc&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/yt]

That should tell you why our new president views his teleprompter much like the old American Express slogan: “Don’t leave home without it!!!”

Yet, possibly more disturbing are the lengths the media are going to in order to hide Obama’s insecurity from the public according to Politico:

His use of the teleprompter makes work tricky for the television crews and photographers trying to capture an image of the president announcing a new Cabinet secretary or housing plan without a pane of glass blocking his face.

Do you think media would have tried to capture former President Bush’s image without a pane of glass blocking his face if he brought a teleprompter everywhere he went? Or would they have done their best to make him look foolish for doing so?

Yes, those are rhetorical questions.

He uses it because without it he is nothing but a bumbling idiot. Oh wait he really is just a bumbling idiot but tries hard to hide that act with his teleprompter.

Then again.... Bush couldn't read a tele-prompter with multi syllablic words on it. Seriously...

..TM7

Bush did not "Need" a telepromter. Obama "needs" one. And there is a big differance.

Bush was an idiot without a telprompter.  Obama is an idiot with a teleprompter. We have, what, 350,000,000 or so people in the US? Do you mean to tell me that these two are the best the US has produced in the last 10 years? (I'm not even going to get into the previous 8.)  I like to try to not be a conspiracy theorist, but really??? THESE are the best we can do???  ::)

Yes this is apparently the best according to the majority.

The American majority people voted them in. This should tell you something about the American people's level of intelligence.

We need to go back to the days when only property owners could vote. Seriously, letting children vote for president based on who is the better looking is how we got into this mess.

Perhaps only those who can demonstrate a good 'working' knowledge of the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, etc. should be allowed to vote.  But then, that would mean the government would police itself.  Not gonna happen!

Years ago people had to demonstrate you could read in order to qualify to vote. This was one of the "tests" that if you could not read, you certainly could not understand and rationalize the issues, therefor not qualified to make an educated voting decision.

I can see why that qualification got thrown out. Being able to read would be helpful, but is not necessary for showing ones ability to reason. Someone who can not read is still be able to listen and comprehend the fine points of the topics that each candidate is arguing, and therefore make an informed decision.

I don't recall there ever actually being a requirement to own property, or being able to read, as a requirements to vote. I believe that to be a myth. I would surely like to see the proof of these claims in the form of historical references.
As for the property ownership, that would mean that I would have missed over a decade of not being able to EXERCISE MY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO VOTE, when struggling as a young married. When folks start putting requirements on AMERICANS as to whether they can vote or not, they themselves are no better than than the people they are complaining about that are in office. Usually the folks that want such a requirement ALREADY OWN PROPERTY, and want to change the rules to favor THEMSELVES. JMTCW.

Restrictions on who can or cannot vote will not get it.  Until the 1970s one had to be 21 to vote.  Never mind that guys and girls younger that that were dying in wars.  US senator Jennings Randolph of WV pushed the bill lowering voting age to 18 through congress.

There is a lesson for folks in the last election.  If your party puts forth a candidate for president who is un-electable, then that man will not be elected.  McAmnesty came with too much liberal baggage to be electable:  We had a choice of two liberals.

Rather than put restrictions on who is allowed to vote, just select a person in the primary who is electable.

I like the idea of owning property as one of a few potential requirements in order to vote. As an example, If you don't own property, why should you be able to vote on measures that impact property tax. So this is an excellent idea. Another would be to read, write and speak English. If you’re not literate, how can understand the issues.

This will help minimize the negative impacts from the poor gene influence on the rest of the country.

So since I do not make enough money to buy some property according to you I am not good enough to vote.  What makes you any better than me?  Owning property does not make you more important than me.  I work hard for what i have which is not much so I have just as much of a right to vote as you.  People with your way of thinking make me sick.  My choice counts as much as yours.  Heck we might as well let only white male property owners vote right. Lets just take rights away from women and any one who is not white while we are at it. Lets move backwards instead of forward. >:(

Sorry, but you just have less at stake then someone who actually owns property and pays tax. Why should you get to vote up or down on issues that can raise property taxes?

People like you make me sick as well. Your all so willing to vote up on property taxes but you never have to pay for it. Perhaps if things were not so bad on this subject I might have a differant attitude. But becasue the privilage has become so abused by people who are always sucking off the dole and not contributing, this is a worthy issue.

Why should a ranch owner who dies have to pay a death tax on the ranch before it can be pass it on to his own damn family?? These are the type of issues that people like you get to make decisions on. You should have no right to have an impact here with your vote, it's not your money. ::)

[/quote]  Your right I do not have as much at stake but yet I have always voted no on raiseing property taxes.  Just because someone does not own any property does not mean they think that the taxes are fair.  I put my life on the line every time I go to work so maybe I should be as small minded as you and think that only police fire and military personal should have the right to vote.  Heck while we are at it only those of us that work in this field should have the right to free speach and the right to own guns and to hunt and fish and drive and own land.  All parking spots close to stores and other businesses should be reserved for us and not the handicapped.  Maybe we should be the only ones who can run for office.  Maybe every one else should make the exact same pay regardless of what they do for a living since they do not work in one of these fields.  See this way of thinking is just plain stupid.  Just because you do not believe it is fair does not make it true.  It is time to grow up things stopped being fair in the first grade so get over it.  It sucks that some day I may die for some one like you but I would do it with out a second thought because I truely care for my country and its people.  Sincerly yours someone who is not small minded

As I recall my history, early on, that was the case,  only property owners had the right to vote. It may have been in individual colonies prior to the founding of the Nation. I kind of threw the idea out as a red herring because it is obvious that voting rights are never never going to become more restricted. I never thought you all would argue the idea seriously because it ain't gonna happen.

But, I still believe that expanding voting to an ever larger portion of the country again and again, is what has doomed the country to the ultimate end that all democracies face.  The masses have learned that they have the power and are stupid enough use that power irresponsibly. The example usually given is a community of two wolves and a sheep voting on the dinner menu.

I know this isn't a true democracy we are a republic with divided powers and all the good ideas the founding fathers built into our system to preserve it. But somehow democrats have figured a way to corrupt the system and republicans weren't smart enough to see through the myriad of small changes that have brought us to this point. Fact is, the country today is acting exactly like two wolves eating the sheep.

I feel the country is gone my fellows, it was good while it lasted, the only question I see now is how quickly will it collapse. Perhaps some of the Democrats will see what is happening and conduct themselves a little more responsibly, maybe we'll get lucky and our enemies will attack us so that we get too busy to destroy the country, who knows, but I don't think the US of A as we know it has much longer..

Directly from Department of Justice Website 9Concerns among other things literacy test (the ability to read and write to be able to vote in some states)

Disfranchisement
The extension of the franchise to black citizens was strongly resisted. Among others, the Ku Klux Klan, the Knights of the White Camellia, and other terrorist organizations attempted to prevent the 15th Amendment from being enforced by violence and intimidation. Two decisions in 1876 by the Supreme Court narrowed the scope of enforcement under the Enforcement Act and the Force Act, and, together with the end of Reconstruction marked by the removal of federal troops after the Hayes-Tilden Compromise of 1877, resulted in a climate in which violence could be used to depress black voter turnout and fraud could be used to undo the effect of lawfully cast votes.

Once whites regained control of the state legislatures using these tactics, a process known as "Redemption," they used gerrymandering of election districts to further reduce black voting strength and minimize the number of black elected officials. In the 1890s, these states began to amend their constitutions and to enact a series of laws intended to re-establish and entrench white political supremacy.

Such disfranchising laws included poll taxes, literacy tests, vouchers of "good character," and disqualification for "crimes of moral turpitude." These laws were "color-blind" on their face, but were designed to exclude black citizens disproportionately by allowing white election officials to apply the procedures selectively. Other laws and practices, such as the "white primary,", attempted to evade the 15th Amendment by allowing "private" political parties to conduct elections and establish qualifications for their members.

As a result of these efforts, in the former Confederate states nearly all black citizens were disenfranchised and removed from by 1910. The process of restoring the rights taken stolen by these tactics would take many decades.

So there were many ways to prevent voting until the Constitution was amended to stop all that bull.

What I wrote was, if you don't own property you should not be able to vote on measures that impact property tax. I did not write that the lack of owning property would preclude you from voting say on your congressman or president. And I stand by what I wrote. If your son in the military fighting, does not own property, why should he be able to vote on a ballot measure that would impact property taxes?
