Mini 14 Magazines
« on: March 08, 2009, 10:08:24 AM »
Who makes the most reliable aftermarket magazine for the Mini 14 in 223?
Anybody tried a Mini 223 magazine in a Mini 14  6.8 rem? Same COL?
I know that the 6.8 Rem cartridge will fit in the 223 magazine and feed into chamber and eject but haven't had a chance to take it out and try it with live fire.

Most reliable mag for the mini is home grown by ruger themselves but at a $50 price tag , second up in my experience is the 20 rounder ONLY! PROMAG  ... I have heard alot of bad about promags 30 rounders , real hit or miss ... And thats about it , anything else out there is just a waste of money at this point.

Yup---don't waste your time with anything other than Ruger factory.

Midway is the best deal going right now---Brownell's is like a dollar more.

There is another path to cheaper mags---register your gun with Ruger online and they give you a one time 20% discount for accessories sold on their site---that goes for each gun you register with them--so you could go get that 10/22 you always wanted and buy more Mini mags with the discount after you took the discount for registering your Mini. That would make the $49.95 30-rounder $39.96.----the 20's are still cheaper at Midway.

I have a factory 30 rounder from back in the '80's and several PMI 30's(no longer made) from back then too---and really getting to where I prefer the 20 rounders--quite a bit smaller and handier.

No one. Ruger are the only mags to use in a Mini 14.  Bill T.

This is my experience, I have a mini 14 owned for 20yr.  I have 5 20(factory) 30 rd mags.  I have shot them all, have had a couple of FTF episodes, out of 1000+ rds., but that could be from the crap ammo I have used also.
My 30 rd mags were the cheapest I could get, and when I lived in Louisiana they got all rusty.  I cleaned them up and use them and they work fine.
If I was going to take on the local drug cartel I would of course get the most reliable, expense no object, but I have not had much trouble.

Ruger make the only reliable mags IMO - thank goodness the new Ruger Co has decided to make them available - my local shop has them for $35 / 20  and $55 for 30 - don't wait 'til next rush makes them $100 again.
