Contender replacement part

Bummer.  Shooting my late model, but pre-G2 frame 357 Max this morning.  Noticed it felt wierd when I went to cock the hammer.  Looked down and the back 1/2" of the hammer was missing.  Broke at a thin area.  I assume this must have been a fatigue failure based on very little stress unfortunately.  This frame has not been used much at all since I bought it 10 years ago.  We shot my Dad's blued frame probabaly 10 times as much with nary a broken part.  Crud happens.

I know T/C would fix if I sent it back...but I really really do not want to do that.  I paid good money for 12 ounce trigger jobs on my two frames and I know T/C would "fix" the trigger pull also.

Anyone know if they will send me a hammer?

Be honest with yourself.  Can you guarantee you would hit a paper plate at 250 yards...100 yards...50 yards?  Then you have no business replacing the plate with a live animal.

Probably not.   They'll still send locking bolts and similar to owners, but doubt they'd send a hammer.   

If all else fails, get ahold of Jim Henry in Barstow, CA.   TC has always shipped him any parts he wants (so he has a large inventory) and he won't mess with your trigger unless you want it improved even more (and trust me it would be better than is if he does it).

If I am able to procure a hammer from someone, can anyone advise on how hard it is to install?  I can take apart and reassemble most any gun I own and normally without instructions.  I tear down my Blackhawks, Single Six, Ruger Mark II, Rem 870, Rem 31, Browning Auto 5 and many other to their components and reassemble.  What I have not done is any file fitting work as I am paranoid about screwing stuff up.  I don't go much farther than smoothing trigger and hammer sear faces and changing out springs and parts.  I also realized last night that the only two guns I have never completely disassembled in my entire collection is my Browning Superposed and the Contender! 

If it is just a matter of reassembling with the replacement hammer I have no worries.  Should I worry about changing out this hammer?  If I should be worried I will send it to Jim Henry.  He has work for me before Iw as very happy with.  Still, if I can avoid the expense I would like to.

T/C confirmed yesterday that they will not ship a hammer and that my trigger pull would be returned to factory spec if I send the frame in.  No way!

Hmmm, I wonder if you could send the frame in without the trigger group?

On the hammer install, you will need to fabricate a slave pin to hold the spring while you position the hammer (as I understand it, I haven't done it myself yet).

Yep, I used a piece of the shank of a 3/16" drill bit 3/8" long and it works perfect for the slave. You put the spring, pin and hammer together then slip them into position in the frame and push out the slave pin with the correct frame pin. Its not nearly as difficult to do as it is to explain.

  Correct, 3/16 pin to hold the hammer in place while you tap the pin in. I have a brass pellet that size.

Do you have G2 or Pre if its Pre I'd IM GB the big guy Him self he was a TC Fanatic He knows then up and down
I'm sure he could talk you through a Pull and Put together he may have a Place to get the trigger
I also would say if need be sent to TC I don't thing doing a trigger job on them is Rocket science
This also maybe one of the FAQ's here
