I don't normally, but that's only because I've got a lifetime supply of milsurp 8mm ammo.

In the 50's - 80's, all I remember my Dad ever shooting in his K98s and a few other milsurps he had was lead he cast and loaded. Always shot good for me and pops; he was very 'scientific' about his reloading and was always trying to improve his loads. I still have some he made up, and occasionally pop off a few for ol' time's sake.

I had a nice feature article published in the 2007 Guns and Ammo Surplus Weapons edition pertaining to cast lead and milsurps.  I cast my own 8mm gas check style bullets using wheel weight and load them with 17 grains of 2400 for a muzzle velocity of about 1650fps.  They shoot to point of aim at 100 yards and my average group is right at 3" with the crummy Mauser inverted "V" sights. Most people find 3" with surplus ammo as good as they can do as well.  I have a buddy who shoots cast in every milsurp he owns, including AKs and SKSs!

I shoot lots of cast in 8x57s.  No more difficult than any other rifle cartridge to shoot cast in. What is it you want to know?

My mauser load uses a 170 grain gas check bullet, cast from straight wheel weight.  I could push it hotter without leading, but my whole reason for shooting cast, is avoiding the absolutely horrible surplus crap people are shooting in their nice milsurps, and enjoying a day at the range actually hitting the circles I'm aiming at, rather than 3 to 6 inches higher.

Yep all the time in my G98/40's. I load the Lee 175gr GC cast out of WW's.  I load mostly with 45 gr IMR4350 or 35 gr Varget sometimes 11.5 gr Unique.
The Unique load runs  in the 1500's. The other two work in the 1900-2100 fps range.
