All this and I can't Pray ?
« on: March 09, 2009, 06:42:37 AM »

After being interviewed by the school administration, the prospective teacher said: “Let me see if I’ve got this right.”

“You want me to go into that room with all those kids, correct their disruptive behavior, observe them for signs of abuse, monitor their dress habits, censor their T-shirt messages, and instill in them a love for learning.

“You want me to check their backpacks for weapons, wage war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, and raise their sense of self esteem and personal pride.”

“You want me to teach them patriotism and good citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play, and how to register to vote, balance a checkbook, and apply for a job.”

“You want me to check their heads for lice, recognize signs of antisocial behavior, and make sure that they all pass the final exams.”

You also want me to provide them with an equal education regardless of their handicaps, and communicate regularly with their parents in English, Spanish or any other language, by letter, telephone, newsletter, and report card.”

“You want me to do all this with a piece of chalk, a blackboard, a bulletin board, a few books, a big smile, and a starting salary that qualifies me for food stamps.”

“You want me to do all this and then you tell me. . .

      I CAN’T PRAY?”

a) Yes, when you agreed to be a teacher you agreed to do those things, minus the exagerations
b) Lots of people would take a job that pays that much for 9 months of work
c) Who said you can't pray?  You just can't advocate a specific religion, if you don't understand why, send me a PM and I'll send you a copy of the Bill of Rights

I can't stand the public school system.  I would like to see it abolished.  But I know that getting from 'here' to 'there' will cause a lot of problems in the meantime.  However, not doing anything about it and allowing it to run its course will continue to breed generation after generation of socialist idiots.

Seperation of church and state. Public schools are state schools. Yes teacher should be able to pray but not with the students.(unless those students choose to.) There are other religious beliefs in public schools. So only your beliefs should be respected that is unconstitutional. Theres always public school if you dont like it.

I couldn't have said it better myself.  As for "No student left behind", doesn't it violate the 10th amendment of the constitution?  Shouldn't schools and education be ran by the states?
