What is your favorite Lure, or Bait?
« on: September 03, 2003, 02:50:47 AM »
In Texas, hogs are considered a non-game species. It is legal to use bait to hunt them. Corn is the most-used bait, along with a few lures, such as "Hog Wild!", molases, soured corn, etc. A few weeks ago, someone suggested pouring DIESEL fuel on the corn before putting it out! They said hogs love it, and it would keep deer and other animals ('coons) from eating it. I haven't tried this yet, and will remain skeptical until I do.
What are some of the other things you guys have tried, and what kind of success are yuo having with it?>>>>>>>>>Bug.

Personally, corn straight from the bag works best for me.  I know folks who use diesel and such, but I do not care to do that in the woods I hunt and trap.  Also have used regular sweet feed from the bag, the type used for cattle.  Works great!

Yeah, we do. Works, too! at least on a limited basis. We baited most-all them da-- Oakies plum outa the state!  :D   Seriously, if it is hunting related, I'll usually try it... At least once. Oddly enough, I don't use bait when bow hunting whitetails. But, I do plant a food plot, or use a feeder when gun/general season rolls around. This is so my 12-year old will pretty much be assured of seeing something everytime we go. Ya gotta keep their interest pretty high, or their attention span won't be too long. Y'all keep it 'tween the ditches,,,,,,,,,,,,,Bug.

Hay Bug:  speaking of baiting, has that Governor of yours decided what the best bait is to lure those outlaw politicians back into the state yet, if it hasn't happened already?  Not that I want to add any flame to the diesel fuel, maybe but I've been wondering about that lately.

Couldn't he just declare them scofflaws, or legal big game so ya'll could shoot'em on sight once they crossed the border back into Texas?  And, where are they hidin', Oklihoma is it?  Isn't that where the Hole in the Wall gang hid or was that someplace else?  Just askin'.  Mikey.

TeeHee! Them durn politicians have been considered vermin for as long as I can remember! I really don't know WHY the Dept. of Wildlife keeps pertectin' 'em. I guess they's the best example of, well, A WILD LIFE!!!
Yeah, that must be it. As for them "outlaws" what's hidin' out, well I happen to agree with the reasons they're doin' it. That, and the fact it provodes a source of entertainment to no end. Just wish I wa'nt havin' ta PAY fer it, is all. Later, Dude,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Bug.

They ain't hidin out in Oklahoma this time, seems that the good lookin gals wouldn't have anything to do with em, the little town ran outta booze, and there weren't no mesquite wood fer da barbeque.

Look in New Mexico, think they're over there.

I happen to know at least one of them wayward politicians. He married one of my ex-girlfriends (now HIS ex-wife... tried to tell him  :-D ). There was one who defected Tuesday. Sneaked back. Wonder if they lured him back with sweet corn....   :-)
