Another Trip To The Candy shop

I went with my hunting buddy to the CANDY SHOP Sunday.
He was looking for a bolt gun in 270wsm.
As soon as I walked in I spotted a used HANDI on the rack.
It had a straight red,black,brown,lamanated stock and was chambered in 22 Hornet ejector.
It is a NS (2002) in as new condition.
Has the standard Handi rail along with upgraded rear sight and the hammer spur mounted on the left.
Must have been a leffty that traded it in.
It is spotless.
It must have been test fired only as it doesn't even show that it had rings on it.
The best part was the price, $189.00 out the door.
Being this old I am hoping that it is a 1in 12 or 1 in 14 twist.
I guess I now have my 221 fireball project canidate.

While I was there I looked at a new 44 mag with the new serial#.
The barrel is marked SB2 but on the off side of the frame it clearly states for 44mag, 357mag, & shotgun barrels only.
Price was ok at $239.00 with the black plastic stock.

Man I love the CANDY SHOP!!!

Sounds REALLY nice!! 

IIRC, that wood is from a Davidsons special, more likely the com-plete gun was.  I too am on a re-chambering kick. Sounds like a great project!!!

I was wondering about the stock set.
I have never seen one like it (color wise) on a Handi.

Sounds right purtty. I'd like to have a straight grip lami stock for my .357, Maybe when I get back to work I can find one in the classifieds. 8)

I'm hopin to find another 1-12 for another 225win the 1-9 needing the longer bullets is not letting me get much past 3300fps and I want one I can crank up may even start looking more at the 220swift. Did they make a 1-14 that was not a 22-250 that chamber is already to long? Great find on the Hornet though. Kurt

Congrats LT, it could have came from RSR, they offered the RSR special Hornet for a while, several here bought them from TGS a few years ago, I think digger bought two of em, lik2hunt got in on the action too.

  I have been reading more and more about this re-chamber. If 225 cases where more readily available this may be more appealing to me. My 223 is a great shooter but I don't use it too much. The 225 is still somewhat appealing.. I do have a unused 1-12 twist older 223 barrel as well.....

As per SIERRA manual:
22 Hornet 40gr top velocity 2800fps
221 fireball 40gr top velocity 3200fps
the 45gr is 2700 & 3100
the 50gr is 2500 & 3000
the 52gr is 2500 & 2900
the 55gr is 2400 & 2800

Just something a little different!

I have 2 Win model 70s, a Win model 670, a custom Bullberry Encore, a full custom Rem model 30s express, and two Handi barrels so I have a very good supply of 225 ammo along with brass that I have aquired over the years.
I love this round as it will do about anything a 250 will do and just a little different.
I love it when someone asks what you shooting and then they say, NEVER HEARD OF IT!

I completely agree. I have ALWAYS had a soft spot for the not so common calibers!!!  ::) ::) ::)

 I am approaching the point of selling/trading off regular calibers only to get a near ballistic duplicate only from a less common platform!!!

I.E. my 307 conversion of a 308 Barrel or my 454 reaming of my 45 colt  ::) ;D

The 221 has a water case capacity of 24.1 gr, compared to 14.9 gr for the Hornet, the Hornets SAAMI MAP is 43kcup, the Fireball 52kcup,  BIG difference!  :)
