HELP! Braztech reports 7.62x39 is .308 bore diameter
« on: March 10, 2009, 05:03:38 AM »
I called Rossi,Braztech  this morning to inquire on Bore diameter of the 7.62x39 rifle (Single shot rifle)

I spoke to a nice guy and he put me on hold and then went to ask (preumably) and when he returned he mentioned the bore diameter was .308.  I am up in the air here as to correct-real bore diameter.

Personally I have never slugged a bore in any rifle and although I get the idea....I have never done one :)
Any of you guys have sluged your bore or called for diamter specs on the x39??

I case you wish you can call 1-305-474-0401 and push #1 for Customer service and ask what is diameter on x39 rifle model R762MB.  I often times think people hear 7.62 and respond .308 without getting into specifics.

Any help would be great, I was gonna order 1000 cast bullets at .311 and may hold off to see if .308 shoots better from the x39 rifle....pretty easy to load up some in .30 cal projectiles.

Hello CBXBoy, Yes I have slugged my bore on mine, 4 or 5 times and the results are consistent...   .308-.309! I have tried some reloads with .310 diameter projectiles and still can't hit a bull in the hiny.  Not to mention all the factory ammo that we discussed in a previous threads.
I think my X39 is cursed.  How is that shiny new -06 shoot?

A .308 dia is a good thing if you plan on reloading for it. Not so much if you just wanna shoot cheap surplus like ammo as these will most likely have a .311-.312 bullet dia. Slugging a bore is not that hard so if you are in doubt then give it a go. Your rifle may still shoot excellent with those cast bullets as they will be a snug lead fit.

folks tend to put way too much stock in .001 or .002

chances are if you can't hit a bull in the rear it's for other reasons besides the bore diameter. I've tested .310 factory ammo in a .308 bbl and vise versa with handloads and really got the same results.

The group below was fired from a custom bench gun chambered in 7.62x39 with a shilen .308 1/15" twist bbl shooting .310" monarch ammo

and these were fired in a CZ527 carbine with a .3105" bore with the same 150grn sierra in .311 and .308

in short .002" simply isn't very darn much
