Anyone cast either the RCBS 22-55 FN or the SAECO # 221  60 gn SPGC ??

Yap, I cast the RCBS 22-055 and Lyman 225415, both about 55 grains. Shootem in an AR and soon a 222.

I cast the lyman and have good luck useing low power loads out of my .223 with them, I load from hot .22LR up to .22 hornet loads all in the .223.  I got the load info from Calhoons.

I cast the Lyman 44g RNFP with a GC for my 22 Rem Jet as well as my 224GNR and have had mixed results at the upper levels of the GNR , but get groups at the slower speeds .

hey stimylu32, any chance you would do some trading for some of your lyman 44g gc bullets, so I could try them in my hornet, before I invest in one of those molds? pm me if interested!

I have an RCBS 22-055 mold that casts a bullet weighing 57 grains.

223 Rifle load: 10 grains of Blue Dot.  Approximate Velocity is 2200 fps.

223 Remington Bull Barrel Rifle .  My notes are below:
24" barrel - 100% burn, 31% Efficiency

9/27/06  I fired these in a pristine clean barrel in the 700 BDL rifle.  At 200 meters, they shot all over the place.  The barrel did not lead or foul.  I was shooting at the 200 meter steel chickens and the were safe from me today.

I cleaned the rifle again and fired my old Hornady 55 grain and 26.2 gr. of WW748 with MOA accuracy.

My notes on the use in a 10" barrel Contender in 22 Hornet at 200 meters (219 yards) and 300 meter pigs at 330 yards.  This was amazing.  6.5 gr. of Blue Dot was the load.  I loaded these at the Range.

I loaded at the range today to develop a load for the gun.  6.5 gr of Blue Dot was the first tested and it was the best.  I tried 8.9 gr H4227 and it was noisy and less accurate.  Gerry Podesta and I played with this most of the day.  I got to pigs and it would take them most of the time.

Steve Walaski had his Chrony chronograph today and I ran 5 shots over it.  Average Velocity = 1899.6 fps.  Extreme spread was 40 fps.

I have a Ruger #3 in 22 Hornet.  I have tried the 6.5 grains of Blue Dot and it did fair.  I didn't keep any notes.  Shame on me and now I can't remember.  It wasn't as good as the 10" Contender, though.

I cast the 60 grain saeco out of wheel weights dropped out of the mold into cold water. I size them and add gas checks. I am not an expert caster but i can  give/send you some to try if you would like. dan

I have cast bullets for a plethora of .22's over the years. The most important advise I can give anyone attempting to do so is this: As the size of the bullet decreases, the effects on accuracy caused by slight imperfections increases. A tiny deformity that wouldn't effect the performance of a .30 caliber bullet can cause a flier if found on a .22 bullet. Be very critical of the quality of your cast .22's.

Currently I'm working with .228" diameter bullets out of an old Ideal #228367, 60gr. GC, in a 1912-vintage Savage 1899H .22 HiPower. Getting inch groups at 50yds. (tang sight+middle aged eyes) with 6gr. Unique. Don't know the velocity- and don't really care- but I guess it's around 1500fps. Shows promise for a light turkey rifle load this fall, with maybe a bit more velocity. Couldn't find a .228" sizing die, so I took and reamed out a .225 die, using a #1 size drill bit chucked in the tail stock of the lathe. Worked like a charm.
