What a beautiful, beautiful rifle.

You have been given something that makes people like me swoon at the thought of owning. I'm sure more knowledgeable Jeffrey enthusiasts will chime in but in basic terms, and from what you say the likelyhood of it being an imitation is small, what you have is a 333 (Jeffrey) Express proofed for a max load of 42 gr. of Cordite - an early type of smokeless powder to my knowledge no longer used - with a 300 gr. bullet, made by one of the preimere turn of the century English Gun Firms using, as most all did for their "Express Rifles" back then, the 98 Mauser action. In typical German/European fashion, all parts of the rifle were stamped with at least the last 2 digets of the receiver serial number. This may even include the stock.
If ol' Brithunter, was it?

still posted he could probably give us a great workup on it!
That thing should be cherished! I'd be willing to bet, just from the looks of the rifle that there was a wooden/leather case for it at one time. Mayhaps the lady has it and doesn't know what it is?
