Factory barrel fitting question
« on: March 12, 2009, 03:54:04 AM »
I was looking at a model 88 12 gauge with a 30" full choke for sale. I was wondering
if the factory would fit a 28" mod barrel to that receiver? Also, would the barrels
currently available from the factory fit that receiver, or is it too old for them to do so?

Bob I'm not sure what the Model 88 is but it still all boils down to yr of manufacture I believe. Kurt

Kurt,
It looks to me like a fairly recent 12 Ga single shot H&R shotgun.
I'm not sure what year it is.

A model 88 is an old H&R firearm, build year info by serial number prefix can be found in the FAQs and Helps sticky, it covers everything from 1940 on, the 88 was made before 1987 so H&R won't touch it, but you may be able to fit a modern barrel to it yourself, Numrich also sells older barrels, just depends on the forend style, some older guns  had a snap of forend, no screw.

Thanks for the info Tim! I think I might pick this old shotgun up. A friend of mine used to have one
similar to it, only it was a 20 ga. We used to have a lot of fun blasting tin cans with it. Thanks for
the tip about Numrich for the barrels. They actually have some in stock. :o
