GB I too was short on the air supply.
That wasn't corrected the first time I had a heart cath, but one year latter I had another heart attack and this time they opened the line that goes across the chest which controls your breathing.
It was 85% blocked.
After that cath I felt a lot better.
I could run up & down steps and do all kinds of things.
I am not as good as I was right after that cath but it has been about 5 or 6 years since that one was done.
Still, I am a lot better than I was before it was done.
Make sure you tell them about the shortness of breath and make sure they check the line (vein) that controls breathing.
If they open that one you will feel a whole lot better!

Graybeard,
I have not been a member of Graybeard Outdoors quite a year yet, but have a lot of respect for the way you run this forum. It is great place for information and meeting a great bunch of guys.
Prayers for you and your wife will be offered throughout this time and hope all goes well for the both of you.

Actually yesterday's appointment was with the eye doctor who gave me a clean bill of health with my eyes. Vision was 20-30 and healthy. He did mention some very small cataracts which he said likely would need to be dealt with but several years on down the road.

On March 30 I went to the cardiologist. He indicated that the results of the stress test read by another cardiologist not him indicated a worsening situation and he felt some additional measures are required. I go on Thursday of this week for an echo cardiogram and Holter monitor whatever the heck that is. I am scheduled for a heart cath/angioplasty on April 9.

The chest pain doesn't seem to want to go away tho it doesn't seem to be getting any worse either. My shortness of breath issues however do seem to be getting worse. When I returned from the eye doctor yesterday my youngest son Phil and I went out and planted 15 blackberry bushes before the rain ran us back inside. By the time I got back to the house I was so drained and out of breath I had to lay down for a nap and to breath oxygen. After the nap we were able to go back out and dig another 15 holes or so to get more plants in the ground. Again when I got inside I was pretty drained and had to rest before I was able to eat supper.

I tire so easily I can do but a very little at a time. I have to spread things out over several days that most healthy folks could easily do in a half day. More and more I need oxygen after each small work session or short walk. I'm actually supposed to be on oxygen 24-7 but stubbornly refuse to use it except when sleeping for now. If the doctors don't figure out the shortness of breath cause soon tho I may have no choice.

GB, and Echocardiogram is a realtime imaging procedure of the heart while functioning (painless) that is very similar to a sonogram that pregnant ladies get (let us know if you are pregnant, that'll cause chest pain ;D).

A holter is basically an Electrocardiogram that you wear for 24 hours.  It'll tell them what happens to you during the 24 hours you have it on.  These are very helpful, though a bit of a PIA.

We're all praying for you.

I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant but with my pot gut I do kinda look like I might be.  :o

He did mention fitting me up with a monitor thing for a day but I didn't realize that was what this thing is. I guess that means I need to go back on Friday as well. Geeze every single day this week then I'll have to make a trip to the doctor's office.

I've worked as a RN in the cath lab as well as in telemetry.

If you end up getting the heart cath...they basically put a wire in through your femoral artery (usually) and feed it up to around your heart and start injecting dye as they take x-rays so they can see where your blockage is.  They then feed the wire into the blocked area and then feed a stent (usually) in along the wire and expand it to open up the blockage.

You sound like you're in pretty good shape to me and best of luck,
James

I've had 2 of them and I hope you never have to change your outlook!   ;)  But I tell ya, if they had this sort a thing before my father died (of a heart attack) he'd probably still be around!   ;D  ...    ??? ... well, maybe not...  :-\  after all, he would have been 110 this month...   :)

Hang in there GB as my old motherinlaw use to say at 50 we begain to patch and that is true.
as long as there is a breath there is hope and as long as we are on the green side and not the brown we are ok. I take my BPM every day dropped 70lbs and got the old celestroil in check. My health care giver at the VA says I am as good a shape as a 20 yr.old but like I said to her all parts dont work like a 20 yr. old :) :) Will put you and wife on our prayer list, as James said in James 5-14 the prayer of a rightious man availes much. We are all pulling for you. Love the sight and what you have done for all of us.

Looks like you submitted to this intrusion into your personal life--it may have been a conspiracy with Faye as the head conspirator :D.
Glad you are doing what they asked--remember---a person that has hisownself as his lawyer has a fool for a client.
be smart, as I know you will, and do all that they ask. you have too much real life ahead to be hardheaded and so it your own way.

I had a heart attack a little over 11 years ago. Cholestrol was 504 and triglycerides were off the scale and unreadable. I had the angioplasty and a stent implanted. After a month of heavy duty meds, including 3 shots in the stomach a day for 10 days, the cholestrol was 403 and the triglycerides were 2334. I now have it down to 102 and 195. I had to wear the monitor a couple times, no big deal. Then is September of '08 I found out I'm diabetic. ::) Seems like I can't win for losing. I now have it under control and have lost 45 pounds as a result. ;D I'm telling you all this to prove a point. You can beat this Bill! It just takes a lot of dedication. I have tried really hard to follow everything they have told me to do. You'll make it alright, I've got faith in you.

Cabin4, the angioplasty is a cake walk. The only bad part is when they release the dye. For a few seconds you feel really flushed and you have to fight the urge to puke. I actually fell asleep toward the end of it.

+1                                    I had those monitors attached for about 8 hours lieing flat on my back at age 21 - the Army doc had decided I had a heart problem and went to discover what it was. Official finding was that I had an "athletic heart with a distinct '3rd' heartbeat"  - I told them that allowed me to foxtrot instead of waltz! LOL! Nearly 40 years later, the family doc still sides with my pre-military doc who allowed I had a mild un-offending heart murmur. We are still whispering!

Prayers to you and Faye, Bill - do us proud!
