« on: March 13, 2009, 07:08:53 AM »
Hello all. A buddy just brought over his late mother's Model 55 30/30. I remember seeing it when I was a kid, hanging in their gun room. Anyway, the serial no. is 8241. Can anyone tell me when it was made?  Thanks a lot.   Kix

Thank you Skunk for your fast reply. My buddy just told me his mother was 5 yrs. old when it was built.  Thank you very much and have a nice week-end.   Kix

You're very welcome Kix. Does 1928 at least approximately correspond to the Mother's age?

Just a little more info on your model 55.
Skunk is correct in the year of 1928.
The begining serial # that year was 8025 and the ending # was 10471 for a total production run that year of 2446.
As per WINCHESTER DATES OF MANUFACTURE 1849-1984 book 1 of 1000.

Thanks guys. It's nice to get informative, friendly responses. And Skunk, remember that Mauser I was trying to I.D. and I couldn't get the barrel band screw off my VZ-24? Well,I tried some more and finally had to give up before I made a real mess out of the screw head. But on a better note I did buy the rifle (just last night) and it's in .257 Roberts. The barrel has no markings other than 257 so the maker is a mystery also but I know the former owner so I know it's a Bob. Now all I need is brass and let the fun begin!   Kix

Hey, WTG there Kix. Although I've never owned a Bob, I'd sure like to have one someday. Have fun Kix, sounds like you got yourself a good one.
