No More 'Once Fired' Gov't. Brass
« on: March 13, 2009, 07:34:05 AM »
From another forum-

Got this today from a govt auction site I frequent. Best snatch up what you can before prices skyrocket.

Dear Valued Customer:

Please take a moment to note important changes set forth by the Defense Logistics Agency:

Recently it has been determined that fired munitions of all calibers, shapes and sizes have been designated to be Demil code B. As a result and in conjunction with DLA's current Demil code B policy, this notice will serve as official notification which requires Scrap Venture (SV) to implement mutilation as a condition of sale for all sales of fired munitions effective immediately. This notice also requires SV to immediately cease delivery of any fired munitions that have been recently sold or on active term contracts, unless the material has been mutilated prior to sale or SV personnel can attest to the mutilation after delivery. A certificate of destruction is required in either case.

Thank you,

I read that Demil code B requires mutilation only if the surplus is being exported. The Govliquidation auction site has brass up for auction ending next month and the auction clearly states that Mutilation is NOT required.

Why in  haites are they exporting anything military! Seems the japs imported a lot of scrap military and otherwise  before Pearl Harbor. Then they shot it back at us!

We have a flat learning curve!

Now back to military brass.................... that smells of el torro do do to me!

It gets exported because they'll pay more for the brass. Most of the brass we see nowadays is from Police ranges anyway.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

I wonder!

After first reading the post at the start of this thread, I went to a site I have been watching in the hopes of coming up with some brass and what do you know, nothing listed except for a disclaimer.

Sounds like the wood is not all split and stacked at this point, as the disclaimer indicated that if things returned to the point where they could still sell the brass, the orders already in would be filled.

So looks like a wait and see situation for all of us.

Probably someone broke a finger nail on the mouth of a once fired military case, so we needed a new law to protect ourselves from ourselves, again.

All these laws make me feel soooooooooo safe. NOT!

Keep em coming!

After the Vietnam War we left behind or sold a few classes of ships.  Now the countries who own them have to purchase parts and ammunition from us to operate these ships.  Our US companies still get to sell the parts, just not to DOD.  Why not sell obsolete supplies and technology.  It supports a lot of industrial jobs and helps with our trade balances.  Beats scrapping or scuttling.
