I recently purchased a Handi barrel from another member. Payment and shipping (w/insurance) went smooth and fast. My package arrived in the post office, The box was a little crushed on one end and a corner ripped out. NO barrel. Insurance claim is being made. Anybody have any idea how long it will take to get a refund and how much of a hassle I'll have.

last summer i sent my laptop in to the service center for cleaning and upgrade it was lost i am still fighting to get paid for it i was informed that it was not worth the full value i will NEVER use USPS again

Sorry to hear of your problems Willie!!

I have been shipping with USPS for many years and have never had a real problem. I mean allot of packages too.

One time, one guy claimed to have not received a knife I sent him. When he found out that I hadn't insured the package he flipped!! I informed him he didn't request insurance nor did he pay me for insurance. This went back and forth for about a week. Many nasty notes and phone calls. Then one day he informs me I am being sued as I didn't use my full name on the return address and that was the reason for the item being lost. I spoke with the past master, and informed him of this info. How would this man know I use my first initial and part of my last name if he didn't receive the package? LONG story short, this guy was FEEDING off the PO insurance for lost items!! Post master caught him good! The last I herd he was caught up in multiple mail fraud charges. That was long ago, when I first began selling on EBay. Now all packages get insurance, tracking numbers and go priority mail.

I would suggest you contact the post master at your office where the package was received from. Hopefully the seller will be cooperative and do some of this on his end as he has much more say so than you do as in there eyes, it was HIS property. Sounds like that might be a improperly packaged box. Hope there is a favorable outcome.

Local UPS store will not ship any firearm or any part of a firearm.To do this you must go to a main shipping warehouse.

Over the years I've done a lot of shipping/receiving with various carriers. Never had any problems with UPS, though I've certainly heard of instances of UPS employee pilferage.

I did lose one shipment I was expecting with DHL, but they were on the way out anyway and that was settled with the supplier no problem.

Have also had rather obvious USPS employee pilferage experience as well. Package opened, some contents removed then shoddily re-sealed and delivered!
Maybe these represent cases of low severity "Going Postal?"

I can't even get UPS to ship a muzzleloader. I only use USPS & FedEx.

I have also tried to ship UPS through a local outlet - no dice. They asked me what I was shipping, being naive and ignorant; I said gun parts. I know people that shipped through those folks and they just tell them machine parts. I feel if they do not want my business, then they will not get my business - any of it.

I am also sorry for your problems. It may not be all their fault. I have been doing every thing through the USPS. I always ship priority mail and insure. I always make sure the package is done to where it is secure and they are going to have a devil of a time getting it open - I use heavy reinforced 2" tape and a lot of it. The what ever is packed tight in the box so there is not movement what so ever. I test the package after packaging just to make sure by shaking the heck out of it. If there is ANY movement, I tear down and repackage. A barrel unless very secured will shake back and forth and actually punch a hole through the box. Once a container's integrity is compromised, what ever is inside will not get put back in or not all of it put back; it will be repacked minus padding and rattle around in there until it breaks out again, and it may not get put back in. I work for a warehouse that packages auto parts. I know what it takes to make a secure package. You have to expect the worst when packaging a shipment of any kind. You cannot believe what happens in trucking warehouses when they transfer from one truck to another. They run forks into the packages, they dump skids over and then there is an occasional highway wreck - you need to make a good package.

I use the USPS about 95% of the time, UPS can be a bother and FEDEX DHL seem to be a PITA around here. The local postal clerks know I ship guns and parts alot and only ask the standard questions that they have to ask everybody.

I do not know what it will take to get your money back but this is a good time to remind folks that. Most of the time it is our own packaging that fails and that these packages are not handled with kid gloves as we would like...they are handled by the GORRILLA'S in the sorting room some who don't give a rat's behind as to what your shipping . So if you think you got it wrapped good wrap it again. Kurt

I kept all my H&R factory boxes for shipping anything back,do they do the same? even if you pack real good it's the return trip I worry about.

The package was taped OK, but it did a nice crush on one end which blew the barrel out. I dont have a money issue with the seller.He's doing the claim. It was a 308 barrel, hard to come by on this site. They sell pretty fast. I gave my 308 survior to my 13 yr old grandson for CHRISTmas and I sure do miss it. One nefuew got a 45-70 sharki and another got my 336 30-30. They make more every day. Dan

That's not true, UPS accepts handguns, both Fedex and UPS will require overnight service tho. USPS also accepts handguns IF the shipper is an FFL.

* UPS accepts firearm parts for shipment, provided the part is not a "firearm" as defined under federal law; the contents of the package cannot be assembled to form a firearm; and the package otherwise complies with federal, state, and local law. (Note: Receivers or frames of a firearm, firearm mufflers and silencers are considered "firearms" and are accepted for transportation only if shipped in accordance with UPS's requirements for shipping firearms.)
* UPS does not accept automatic weapons, including machine guns, for shipment.
* Firearms, including handguns, and firearm parts are not accepted for shipment internationally
* Ammunition may be accepted for shipment internationally provided it is shipped in accordance with the UPS Guide for Shipping International Goods.

* Packages containing handguns must be separated from other packages being delivered to UPS.

Correct, I'm not an FFL and don't want (or need) to use one. I can't get UPS to ship anything, even a muzzleloader. I hate UPS....period.

I've never had a problem with UPS, but I only deal with one Customer Center, never have been to any of their other shops, but they don't accept firearms everywhere as stated in their regs, same for ammo too.

The main UPS shipping facility here in town called the Atlanta office and confirmed they could not ship a flintlock for me unless I was an FFL dealer. I took it to the post office, no problem.

The only UPS facility in your fine city is a UPS Drop Box which can't accept firearms, ignorance is the likely reason they won't accept a muzzleloader, and if you're using the Fort Walton Beach Customer Center, the same thing applies, they need to be educated, which I love to do, show em their own regs, works with the USPS too!!

The facility I took it to was 1/2 to 3/4 of a city block in size, and had lots of big brown trucks. It didn't look like a drop box.
