How does your state rate ?
« on: March 14, 2009, 04:40:37 PM »
Here is an article that ranks the states as to how much personal and economic freedom they allow their citizens. Obviously it goes without saying that the farther left the state is, the less freedom they allow.
Read part way down, then click onto the transcript of the book "Freedom in the 50 states, index of personal and economic freedom"

They have a complete listing of each state...http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=91539

Missouri is #6, right behind Texas and ahead of Tennessee.

Not bad but would have hoped for a little higher up.
But then again with DEMs like MARK WARNER and JIM WEBB heading our state I guess I should be happy to be this high!

Surprise, surprise... NY is tops on the list for trying to run (ruin) people's lives.
No wonder with idiots like Schumer in state gov't.

Like a lot of surveys, this one has its biases.  For me, the fewer and lower the taxes are, the better.  The lack of restrictive gun issues is also high on my list.  My state didn't get a good rating and I have to wonder what the heck some of the higher rated states have going for them.

We have no state income tax; our gun laws are at least as good, or better than most....  The one thing that my state sucks real bad on, is the Dumbycrats are in charge.  That is the stupid peoples fault.  Most of the stupid is concentrated in the big cities, which I try to avoid.  Other than that, I don't know how we rate so badly.  Oregon has the same political problems--only much worse and they have a state income tax.  Yet, they are rated much higher than Washington.  Their gun laws are worse too.  I think the survey sucks.

I live in NY and when you have someone like Schumer (most people don't know he never held a job in his life-not even a paper boy) who truly believes there should be a law to regulate everyones life that about says it all. When I wrote my Congressman about a proposed restrictive gun law he wrote back he has small children and didn't want them shot!! Not to long ago the local newspaper published a list of all licensed hand gun owners (including me) and the town they lived in to alert people that they had a neighbor who was armed.

Like all studies it is biased by the author's opinions. I am only familiar with numbers 5 and 36 and my ranking of the two for freedom certainly doesn't come anywhere close to theirs. But since I am still free to choose to live in either I'm happy with my choice. I don't put much stock in their study after seeing the rankings for these two and and comparing it with my personal knowledge of the two.

While Vermont has probably the best in terms of gun laws, this isn't the whole picture here.  This is a liberal-socialist state, and the only surprising thing is that it isn't lower than no. 40.  Gun rights are important, but so are other freedoms.  Here, the other freedoms go to the leftists, welfare bums, and the gay marriage folks.  It's amazing that with the politicians these people move here to elect that we still can keep our guns.

Illinois was 42nd in overall freedom. I'm surprised it was that high. I thought it would be worse.

I'll add that I choose to live in #36. It would be very easy for me to move back to #5 but I'm not interested. Number 36 allows me to keep much more of my money in my pocket than #5 does which is very important to me. A added benefit is the gun laws are more liberal. Also there are tons of public land here to roam around on which I like to do. In #5 you are trespassing in most places when you step off the road right-of-way unless you pay for the privilege. Unfortunately some of our politicans are smart enought to read and they are slowly changing some things to resemble #5 to where it costs more to live here every year.

It appears that Wisconsin ranks #37 overall and sadly right about where I thought it would be.

Well Alaska ranked first in personel freedoms, and has the least restrictive gun laws in the nation.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

My oldest brother lived in Oregon for many years when he first moved there it was open carry of a sidearm anywhere. after a few earthquakes and many fires the California Invasion started and they nuts from there brought their liberal ideas with them.

After an all out assault on gun rights and other liberal ideas and raiseing of taxes he got out and moved back to Texas swearing he would never live there or vist there or the state of California again.

Colorado has been invaded by Californians trying to escape quakes and fires. Many scream about the Taxes yet when they got here the first things they wanted were paved roads back in the mountains to their million dollar homes. They want all the services of the larger cities yet claim they want to live secluded. Then they started an assualt on hunters rights just as they did in California. I wish they would stay where they came from and leave this state alone.

No surprise how the states rate..the more blue they are..the less free they are. Liberals are very liberal about trampling on individual rights !
