I think I may have found a good place to buy knives and resale them at flea markets this summer. I will list them 1 through 8 and you tell me what the highest price you would pay for that knife or set of knives. I have gone to many flea markets and there is always a guy selling knives and doing well. Dale

tough to tell from a pic, but maybe 10 dollars for all of them. By the time you pay for a spot in a flea market, gas, and your time you shouldnt lose more than twice what you invested. Get rich schemes are just that schemes.

I'm making my living buying and selling "stuff" at flea markets, auctions and on E-Bay.
Back several months ago, I bought a lot of 10 knives like you are showing for $25. Tried selling them at different flea markets, etc. Finally ended up selling them, as a lot, at an auction for $20.
Everybody at flea markets nowadays, at least down here in the deep south, is trying to
sell China crap. The market is flooded with it. I have done much, much, better with simple
handmade knives that I make myself. Selling in the $20-$30 dollar range. Since you are a
carpenter, should be easy for you to make a few and try it.
IMHO the Chinese Crap selling is a dead end, financially and spiritually.

Dale, if you are looking to make a few extra bucks you might be better off using your fine carpentry skills to make picnic tables. With the economy in such sad shape right now, folks are eating out less and this summer many will be cooking out on the barbeque at home. There are lots of plans online for a great many styles of picnic table besides just the plane old straight table. Heck, you could just sell them from your home and not have to pay the vendor fee most flea markets charge. Since you have your own businss already you should be able to get all your supplies at wholesale prices. Can you see $$$$$signs yet?

Agreed with all seven post Dale and I will also say that you could not give me one for free.

BUT....The general public does not know what a knife is (quality wise) and will buy them for theirselfs or for sportsman realitives.

Very little but that's why they will sell well at flea markets. No one goes to flea markets looking for high quality.

You know I thought of that a few years ago and never went through with it. I have built many picnic tables over the years and I do get a deal on lumber. People pay crazy money for those octagon tables. I have seen them selling for as much as $300.00 and there is less $100.00 in material in them. I do live along a pretty well traveled road and that is a plus. My wife says I sould build little picnic for kids. She says people will eat them up because it is just for the kids. As far as the knives go I can buy the very cheap. Most are only $2.00 or $3.00 a piece. Some are even less and if you buy a dozen you get 8% off that. Dale

I have to agree with the others Dale. Don't waste your time/money on the knives. You would be lucky to recoup the cost of the knives let alone the cost for space at the flea market.

Do what you know best, stick with the woodworking. Like one of the other posters said, this economy means that a lot of folks will be 'vacationing' in their own backyards rather than running to the beach, the golf course, etc.

Pick-nick tables, Adirondack chairs, planters, deck boxes, garden benches, even above ground pool decks and regular decks will probably become sot after items this summer. If you want to try something a little different look at some of the wooden canoe or kayak kits or plans that are available. If gas hits the $4 or $5 dollar mark like they are predicting a lot of high horsepower boats are going to get parked in favor of self propelled craft.

Gun racks, squirrel proof bird feeders. I forgot what you call the things, but they kind of look like rake heads and rose bushes grow on them. make a few of several
things and see what sells. Make sure a business card is attached
to everything.

I have to agree with the outdoor furniture. My local Habitat for Humanity chapter has kind of backed into building outdoor furniture. I don't know who put together the first picnic table there, but people saw it sitting the the warehouse when they visited the Restore, and kept asking for them until we built some and sold them. The kid sized tables are popular, too.

Just came back from the gun show at the San Jose fairgrounds. There was a guy there selling these kind of knives. They seem to go for $5 to $15.

Trellis is the word your looking for and yes those and arbors are a couple of more good items to make.

Think of it this way Dale. If it cost you say $40 in material to make an Adirondack chair and sell it for $100 that's $60 profit off one chair. How many $2 knives would you have to sell at $5 each to make $60. That's not even taking into consideration the gas to get to the flea markets or the fees for the space at the flea market. Also, really well built portable shooting benches might go over good. You could build the tops and just install the already made, sturdy, folding legs that are available on the market. There was a guy doing this a few months back on the Ruger Forum and he sold a bunch of them until it became nearly a full time job, then he and his partner quit building them.

I used to make and sell knife racks, or holders for the kitchen. Folks grabbed them up. POWDERMAN.
