45 Auto Loads?

Whats you favorite Load with 200gr and 230gr Jacketed bullets?
 I've Been shooting 230gr FMJ Winchesters Over a WLP primer and Win 231 Powder in Either Federal or Winchester brass.Well I'm about out of the Win bullets. So I orders a Bunch of Hornady 200gr TMJ SWC and 230gr Hornady (HAP) Bullets They were Much cheaper . Is anyone shooting these?

I only shoot 230 grain bullets in my 45ACP but have never loaded the HAPs.  I have shot the Hornady XTP 230s with WLP and CCI #300 primers and 6.0 grains of Win. 231 with good accuracy.

I did a lot of Ransom Rest testing of Hardball loads last summer.   The most accurate load I found for 230 gr FMJ was 4.6 grains of Bullseye which gave me a 2.6" group at 50 yards.  If you throw out three flyers, the other 7 shots were inside of 1 1/2".   Average velocity was 744 fps.   Testing was done with Hornady FMJ.

Just for the record, Factory Federal Gold Match gave me a 7" group from the same gun.   Avg Vel. was 891 fps
Had some vintage Olin Military Match ammo that gave me a 3 1/2" group with an Avg Vel of 865 fps

My Lyman Reloading manual had 4.7 grains of 700X as the Accuracy load.  With that load I got an 8 1/2" group with an Avg. Vel. of 829 fps.

I don't shoot FMJ 200 SWC's, I use cast lead 200 grain SWC's.  For that I prefer 4.1 grains of bullseye.

All testing done from Ransom Rest at 50 yards.  The loads were tested in an accurized gun with a Kart barrel, your milage may vary.

I don't shoot 230's but for 200gr and 185gr I use 5gr of Red Dot and they both shoot to same POI at 15yds. My 45ACP is a defense weapon so I don't shoot past 15yds.The 200gr are just short of 8oofps and the 185 are barely over.

I have only loaded for 230gr jhp, but I used 8.2gr of bluedot.  don't have a chrony.  yet. ;)

230 grain lead. 5 grains of W231 and a Win LP primer. I've never chronyed this load, but max is 5.1 grains and book velocity is 875.

I too have burned a couple pounds of 231 behind a 200SWC bullet. Its a good load!!

Bullseye and AA#2 are also good powders.
