.223 bull barrel handi rifle
« on: March 15, 2009, 04:12:50 PM »
A gun shop out near me has a plain stocked .223 bull barrel handi for $257. I really liked the gun looking at it, its slick action (probably thanks to handis being manual cocking) really impressed me as well. I have an old savage 220/219 with a 16ga barrel that has a beaver tail forend (trap?) and a 30-30 barrel. Havnt shot the 30-30 barrel yet on that one...

I kind of want a 100 yard range gun (all my range has to offer), and woodchuck/coyote gun as well. The price doesnt seem too bad to me, not sure what they are around anyone else. .22lr arnt that fun at 100 yards since it wouldnt be much more to shoot .223 than high-end match .22lr ammo. That is, with reloading in the picture (I reload for .45acp, .35rem and 12ga shotshell already).

How are these guns? The dealer says he loves them and they are absolute tack drivers, he has a .25-06 hes taken many a coyote with (pictures to prove it). Ive wanted a .223 handi for a few years, Just never seem to see many around. What kind of accuracy do you guys get with factory ammo? handloads? My cousin has an AR-15 so I could go in bulk with him to get components. Save a bit of cash, too.

Thanks!

Some are and some aren't. They have an almost religious following here! If you do not get one that is a good shooter out of the box you can check the FAQ and the handi 101 threads at the top of the H&R forum and get some easy tips to make it shoot better.

Good luck!

Not a bad price for a new one, but a bit much for a used Handi, see the thread titled should I get a 223 on page 2.  ;)

Its brand new, He says anything .223 is hard to keep in stock at the moment. Might go back and look at it again, not sure. Next two days are gonna be nice, My Kel-Tec P-11 needs more range time, and my .22s all need a day out. My cap and ball revolver would be fun to take out, but I work second shift and wouldn't have the time to clean it so I have to wait for a nice friday or weekend :(

I saw one in a local store and was wondering what would be an acceptable scope to put on it.  I would be getting it for basically the same reasons that woodchuckssuck wants one.

Nikon makes a good 3-9 for about 150 bucks,  They work well for me I have 3 of them.
That price may not be valid anymore but it wont be much more
