I've decided to clean in between each shot
« on: March 16, 2009, 10:25:53 AM »
its making things a whole lot easier for me.
I thought I was going crazy, or my scope was coming undone and/or moving around.
what i really did not like was the fouling making it hard to get the projectile all the way down. Or rather the consequences of firing one off with a bunch of too much space.
Also I think some of the sabot/bullets were getting catywampus from too much force and coming out bad.

so it may be slow, and not good for a hunting situation.
If I face a whitetail banzai attack, I'm doomed.

But thats how I'm gonna roll from now on.
Until I decide its dumb and change my mind.
 ;D

I can't imagine cleaning between shots.  Wiping with a Windex patch between shots is a normal/common practice.  Cleaning takes 1/2 hour.

I like Windex mo better.  You don't clean the rest of the parts?

I have the huntsman with the new metrix plug no blowback. I do take the plug out and clean it. Im going to have to try the windex thing. Sounds like a good idea. I have a 50 cal hawken that I do the hot water thing on but I rarely use it

I'm shooting some cast 300 gr bullets/mmp 24 sabot, was 90 gr Pyrodex RS but I changed to 70 gr and it didn't seem to make much difference. Hopefully that is still powerful enough to kill a deer.

I took my Sidekick apart after two shots. Hated to do it but the the third reload try just about broke the ramrod. Tried wet patching but noticed after taking the plug out with a load in rifle that everything was so fouled it was a wonder the new charged even ignited. That was with the 25 ACP priming system and 90 grains 777. Now I have a metrics unlimited plug on order. I will now try Blackhorn 209 and 209a Federal primers.

If you really look at it, the cleaning problem was only a factor at the range, not in a hunting situation.

I shoot heavy cast bullets in the huntsman with the new Metrix plug, 209s and two 50 gr. 777 pellets.  I can shoot a dozen rounds before they go down hard, and they are super accurate.....not to mention lethal.  Ignition is instant, very similar to a centerfire.  There's virtually zero blowback.
