20g Tamer backorder?
« on: March 16, 2009, 07:45:15 PM »
I ordered a 20g Tamer from a big hunting store chain up here in Canada back in November.  I was told it was backorder but I asked to keep my order anyway.  It's been 4 months now and I spoke to them a few weeks ago and was told it's still backorder.  Does anybody know if its a NEF is running low on those or is it my store that maybe only orders every so often?? Thanks

I just checked 4 sources here, none available. Doesn't surprise me though, Remington's plan after the plant move from Gardner to Ilion last year was to only produce their most popular firearms until they got up to full production capability, I doubt the Tamer  is a big seller. The Tamer stock is available aftermarket if you want to convert a Pardner, contact Choate for a Canadian source, or just buy one in the classifieds here, individuals can ship firearms parts to Canada with no problems, I've shipped barrels and stocks before. Here are a couple Canadian sources to check out.

I talk to cs about the future availability and they said it would probably go into production again in february and there was no plan to discontinue it.

Next February? LOL, that is crazy. I asked the gun guy a a big store to look up 6 special order Handis, figuring to pick and choose 2 from what was avalable. Only 1 was available, the 20 gauge youth. Comes in blue, with a barrel 2" longer than the Tamer 20. On the plus side the stock is already short, but can be switched out for a Tamer or you could just slip a cartridge holder over the butt, and it can take different chokes. Yes, the Tamer was on my short list.

My brother in law found out I wanted a tamer in 20 guage.  He went back to his safe and brought out a cbc 151 20 guage single and gave it to me.  I plan to leave it with a 20" barrel and 32" length overall.  This way I get to build what I want in a backpack gun and have a chance to work with him while I do it.  (he's about 1/2 redneck but maybe the best friend I have) I intend to wind up with a 4lb gun that I am sure of.  I remember every once in awhile that long ago and far away I was an armorer in the infantry.  I will miss a chance to buy a new gun, but it sure sounds like a fun project.

Good to know....I guess ::).  At least I know it's not my store that's screwing me around but I hope you're wrong about not being available until next February!!!

I should have been more clear in my post. I'm pretty sure the CS guy was talking about the February that just passed. I talked to him this past January.

I looked for quite a while at my wholesalers. I ended up buying one off of gunbroker.

I didn't like the factory stock set, so I swapped it out.

Saw one at Gander Mountain today. HX serial, new, with a lot of scratches, $160 minus 15% for damage. Had been there for years I'd say.

No more than two years, it was made in 2007.

Shot it today. Hate the Tamer stock. Put on a spare syn stock set. Better, but still kicks good for a 20. Love the way it carries.

Looks like a Survivor forend (more meat than the stock forend) and a basic synthetic buttstock.

Yup, that's correct.

I'm 6'1", and it handles much better this way.

Are the 20g Tamers getting back in stores in your area?  I'm on a backorder list since last November at one store and all the other dealers I checked with are out of stock.  PS, I'm in Canada.

Well, after a full year of waiting, I finally received my backordered 20g Tamer today.  Nice little shotgun.  The stock may have to be replaced with a regular plastic stock though.

Congrats! Enjoy it. The stock change would be my 1st move as well.

Did you have to do anything to make the survivor forend fit?
