Good Morning Bird Number 1

I went hunting opening morning but the weather was abysmal unless you were a duck. Came home that morning with nothing but a wet ass. LOL! Went back this morning and with a clear star filled sky this time things went a little better. Heard two birds gobbling close together at daybreak but unfortunately on the opposite side of a creek from me. Even worse the recent rains had it looking like a miniature version of the Colorado River. But I managed to cross it without busting my butt and found a perfect place to set up. An old dim logging lane ran straight down a hillside to where they were gobbling on the limb. I set up against a big pine tree in the center of a bunch of holly bushes. There was a log laying exactly 40 yards (laser ranged) in front of me that gave me a perfect range marker. I yelped to them after they flew down and both gobbled. Other than a few clucks and soft purrs I did very little calling after that. Heard them drumming just out of sight down the hill and then saw a blue head peek over the log. He disappeared briefly but soon came round one end of the log. At about 35 yards I had the red dot right on that blue head and squeezed the trigger. 19lbs 3 oz, 10 3/4 inch beard 15/16th of an inch spurs. A good start to the season.
